Be aware that Lenovo has removed an ACPI sleep state from the 6th generation Carbon X1 that is causing sleep issues on Linux. There is a workaround but it looks pretty gnarly.

Ubuntu 18.04 is pretty buggy on my Thinkpad P50, too (graphics problems, trackpad issues, poor battery life, no backlight adjustment, etc). And Gnome is just ridiculously slow compared to Windows and macOS. I’m still not sure there is a Lin

I’d say that not even being able to maintain the advertised base clock is a pretty key issue. Being slower than last year’s model just adds insult to injury.

I noticed a big regression in battery life (25-35%) between my 2013 and 2017 MacBook Pro. I don't know how much the Touch Bar had to do with it, but the 2017 was definitely worse.

I completely understand where you're coming from. If you aren't a developer, then some of what I'm about to say won't apply to you, but here's one switcher's perspective: In 2016, I refused to buy a MacBook Pro

Same boat. Against my better judgement, I bought a 2017 MacBook Pro about 6 months ago to make it easier to work with a client. I sold it this week at a big loss. Between the terrible keyboard, the useless Touch Bar, and the dongle hell, an

Sure, iOS developers. Apple just deprecated OpenGL and told everyone to use Metal instead. Where is the non-iOS, Metal-using audience for a supposedly 3D/VR graphics-oriented machine like the iMac Pro?

How is the article hyperbolic? I'll grant that Apple probably does care about "professional Mac users," so long as they are professional iOS developers. Outside this narrow group of professional users, it's hard for me

Anybody here fly commercially? I always wanted to, then 9/11 happened in my 18th year and caused a lost decade for the aviation industry. Thinking about a mid-life career change now, but it’s going to be a very expensive endeavor.

Apple is still selling "new" Mac Pros with Xeon E5-1650 v2 CPUs for $3K. I just picked up a like-new refurbished HP workstation with the exact same CPU for $350 on NewEgg.

As a former Mac user, I can say Windows 10's 4K support is getting better. The Fall Creators Update improved some issues I was having when running multiple monitors with different scaling. At Microsoft's current pace, I expect the

Honestly, as a Rails dev, this just seems more complicated than creating a Rails app in API mode and using #{React||Vue||Ember}} for the front-end. It's extremely easy to get started with a front-end app using vue-cli. This article spe
