Until everything new is "optional". Hopefully PNG won't be the target of "enshitification". We all know that for file formats, there is a very strong pressure from developers and vendors for that to happen since it

To be fair, I am more interested in a 4G/5G modem to connect some modular computer. A smart phone is an expensive one. Do you know of a simple modern 4G/5G modem, USB? Only IPv4/IPv6 bridge, I guess you need USB CDC or someth

I wrote "cannot", because this is a power struggle: either you suffer all the corpo grade tantrums (accutely technically toxic) of valve and work on the lack of elf/linux knowledge of most game devs (generation of "corre

You "cannot": the steam client is a 32bits ELF executable requiring x11 and opengl (no 64bits, no wayland->x11 fallback, no GL->internal CPU rendering). People have been asking valve a "less disgusting client" for

I have to buy such a smart phone hardware: issue, I won't run android for sure, probably something based on a super custom linux. I will need open source and _LEAN_ drivers (including their SDK) with complete hardware programming manua

In my EU country we have age verified wallet-codes. No weird tech, certainly no whatng cartel browser required.

In order to do that, you have to consider the technical plane, or big tech will work around everything, maliciously: we need _lean_ open source software (including the SDK) and protocols, stable in time. This will foster real-life citizen&#

huh, a load which happens to hit the store queue should be faster that usual since it does not even need to reach the cache fabric, shouldn't it?

tautology: _WEB_ apps = 2.5 engines of the whatng cartel (nothing to be proud of...) windows apps = compatible microsoft windows implementations. apple apps = macos.

Tiny _WEB_ apps, namely it requires one of the 2.5 web engines from the whatng cartel (2.5 because blink is a fork of webkit).

Is claude able to write rv64 assembly code? For instance can you asked for a vector-based quicksort? Well, with a "vector size unit" of a "standard" cache line, namely 512bits/64bytes (rv22+ profile).

Dude, I cannot be more explicit than that. That said, when you work on such code, use assembly, C code is for reference (have a look at dav1d av1 decoder).

What? It all depends on the sizes of the strings. Hardware benchmarks, for each significant hardware µarchitectures, must be done on combinations of string sizes in order to know "when" the SIMD setup code is worth it. Often the

What is the string sizes thresold for efficiency? Because the SIMD (aligned, size computations, etc) setup code is usually more expensive that byte-oriented basic search for "small" strings. Yes, it depends heavily on the hardware

Last time I had a quick look, zink did seem far from being finished, I mean very far away. The main issues for xwayland+zink are the middle ground applications: those which are x11/vulkan3D without wayland support, if I am not mistaken
