I grew up in the Canal Zone and spent a lot of time in Berlin. It was valuable to me. Gave me perspectives I wouldn’t otherwise have. There are downsides. Coming to the U.S. from the Canal Zone took a lot of getting used to. Going in t

I use iCloud for storage. It’s worked great for me. I’ve never had a problem with it. It wasn’t eye opening to me that the author doesn’t use iCloud.

But they could collect data and presumably profit more. If they did collect more data and profited from this data collection would they really lose enough customers to offset this increase in profit? It seems to me they wouldn’t. I think t

The personal thing is what a person perceives as truth. Everyone has a set of beliefs that they consider true. The set isn’t the same for everyone. Isn’t it the case then that truth, at least some portion of it, is person dependent?

The eye opening part was how little data there was and the hoops needed to verify the recipient. This is in comparison to Google and Facebook. Both have orders of magnitude more data and sent the data with, apparently, little verification

How is that distinguishable from truth from the perspective of the one who holds said belief?

I have a slightly different take than you. Suppose you believe A to be true. Furthermore suppose no evidence could be presented that would convince you that A is not true. For you then, isn’t it the case that A is indeed true? It may no

As the good book says, "For the love of money is the root of all evil". I'm not posturing. I actually do have a moral code that I try to abide by. The fact that all other wealthy nations provide what is colloquially called

How can it both be unprofitable to treat people near the end of their lives yet also wipe out a lifetime of savings? It's unprofitable for an insurance company to insure someone near death and still provide a decent level of services

Nice false dichotomy you have there. There are other possibilities than the status quo or doctors getting piddling wages.

Thank you for exemplifying the attitude I decried. I wish people like would leave the U.S. Live elsewhere. Escape the burden of possibly having your tax dollars help someone else by emigrating.

I feel sorry for you that you think this way. There’s a reason Medicare came into being. It simply isn’t profitable to treat people near the end of their lives. One illness, calamity is enough to wipe out a lifetime of savings and leave

In the absence of Medicare/Medicaid there would not be universal coverage for the elderly. The elderly do not advocate dismantling this coverage. The coverage is a government program. We are in agreement that a U.S. government progr

That, even if true, does not support your argument. You need to show that the inefficiency in a universal care system in a country as large as the U.S is greater than the current system that we have. The evidence is that this is not true.

It’s foolish to believe that private enterprise is always more efficient than a government run program and it’s foolish to think that government is always more efficient. One should not live in a world of such extremes. Sometimes governmen

The services could be worse but aren’t necessarily worse. It’s foolish to think that any government service is worse than a private one. Also, universal healthcare doesn’t necessarily mean government run.
