Precarious position to be in when you have to clean up after others, and these 'others' are not pro-actively helping you out, or have no incentive to do so. Every software company - or so it looks from my anecdotal experience - ha

I don't see that approach working in any competitive product marketplace. This is the kind of candy you don't want to throw to you competitor. Anecdotal, there's a company that built their core product on Symfony 0.9x, and ne

Being good at tech interview is an art, that few masters, and many are good at while being poor developers. I have countless tales of wow-thumbs-up-interview guys that turn out to be just good at that: interviews. Also, very anecdotal, but

Glad you bring that up. I'm a manager. I do mostly the things you mentioned to give my team some breathing room, and have to WFH when i want anything serious done. As you can imagine if the ambience is bad for me, it is horrible for m

The more I see arguments of this sort, the more I can see where we're heading. Not that there's anything wrong with your argument, this is the world live - we expect our state to have access to data on citizen when the said citize

it's funny. The place i'm at now, in the valley and a successful post IPO SaaS company, management believes that open space and engineers running around, yelling and waving hands is sign or productivity. I have to escape to the k

Don't jump to conclusion, both side of the establishment have been contributing to bloated bureaucracies, Obamacare is just one of the latest (and the one I last read of). My undemocatric comment was around bureaucracies in general, not oba

this is completely of topic, i know. But could not not think about Obamacare when reading about "This is what bureaucracies do, they grow, more complex, more political, more expensive, and exponentially harder to dismantle. " ... I would al

i always thought that rockstars are smart, driven people who were able to achieve substantial results because of favorable circumstances. The term itself is laughable at best, especially when self proclaimed!

I was actually thinking of a parallel airport system. A monopoly outsourcing screening activities to a private company doesn't provide more alternative to the consumer.

Would be interesting to see if a parallel private system could work. The state could maintain standard to which the private network should adhere, i.e. min basic security, etc. In other words break down the monopoly of travel from the stat

"This despite the fact that I already paid my 2012 taxes back in September." fiscal year does not necessarily equals calendar year, how do you know for a fact that's not what happened?

well i didn't! hypothetically, we'd be talking about my 2011 earnings, already taxed, being retroactivity taxed (again) in fiscal year 2012.

Stupid question, but once your income has been taxed and you turn the net into an asset, and then the state comes back in and tell you that the money you used to buy this asset really belonged to the state, isn't that asset seizing? Edit 1:
