I would say that Dropbox's actions were almost Darwinian in nature.

I think you missed the focus of the article. He's talking about very specialized books with small total markets (in the 1000's). With that in mind, these rules seem helpful.

I don't think he has a leaning one way or the other - he tries to be unbiased, and arrive at data-driven conclusions. What have you seen from Nate that makes him seem a "biased liberal" to you? I'd be very interested to know. Also, we'll se

I don't understand any of this diatribe. Various Apple vs Google business issues have been evident for months, and most people accept the fact that changes must be made. So Apple removes the YouTube App and you now download its replacement

Really, an ecological disaster? I tend to think of a disaster in terms of oil spills, nuclear meltdowns, etc. Somehow this doesn't seem to be quite the same class. Are you sure you aren't exaggerating just a bit?

Mostly browsing (new Chrome works well), Netflix, LogMeIn Ignition for remote desktop, photo viewing, Skype. Compared to my new MacBook Air it does seems a little slow starting apps, etc, but the thing is almost 2 1/2 years old, still has g

Funny, I have the original iPad as well, but I haven't yet gotten the official message from Apple to sell it on eBay. Maybe they're sending them to Europe first? Also, the strange thing is that it still runs as well as the day I bought it,

I almost feel bad for Sony. I've bought Sony TV's all my life, but when it came time to buy a large flat panel TV, and I did all the comparisons, I bought a .... Samsung. No comparison - Sony just doesn't hold up anymore, and a lot of it is

I agree - the article was basically a cheap trolling shot at Apple. It ignored a lot of history (remember the initial release of OS X?) and overplayed the map problems. FWIW, iOS6 Maps work great for me, and I live on a private rural road.

I'm always surprised how many shipping Apple products are beaten in benchmarks by about-to-be-maybe-shipped-but-don't-yet-exist products from competitors. You think they'd do better than that!

Do you have any real statistics to back up your statement? I can counter with other anecdotal stuff - where I live, housing prices are rising and unemployment dropping. So I guess I'll state that the economy is growing strongly. That doesn'

Thanks for pointing this out. I was about to implement some simple Image Processing (brightness, contrast, invert, etc) for x-ray images and I think the CSS image filters will give me everything I need. It's a research website and nearly ev

A second on Super Duper - I do this at least once a month to have a completely cloned system on an external USB Drive. Equally important - take the USB drive off site! I plan to buy a 1TB drive every six months so that I can take a complete

Interestingly, Ingres was the first database I ever used - running on Unix (v6 or v7?) on a PDP 11/34. Since then, I've ambled through Oracle, SQL Server, etc, but I'm currently using PostgreSQL on a project, and loving it. The native spati

As a PWS (Personal Weather Station) contributor (KORTALEN1) to wunderground for many years, this concerns me. I live in Rural Oregon and the local PWS's provide a much needed micro look at local weather. Plus, I rely on wunderground's great

Let me add a slightly more negative take. If you follow police technology, no matter what's implemented, crime magically goes down! Although I can see a system like this being a high-level tool for allocating resources, the notion that it c

APL was the first language I learned - I had a very interesting and forward looking Engineering Professor who taught us how to solve complex systems of equations using APL. I loved it, and am sorry that I don't use it anymore.

A lot of these reports are based on data from Russian antivirus vendor Doctor Web. Does anyone have any information on Doctor Web, and how valid their counting methods are?

Long time Windows user and developer, switched to OSX a few years back, now can't imagine working without it. Love the terminal access to Unixy stuff. Running Windows in Parallels for the remaining Windows only software. As I tell people, m
