For some reason, the UPPU made me think of the mysterious U.P. Up in Joyce's Ulysses.

Thanks - I had less than a vague idea. Note to developers - there's so much going on and so little time to keep abreast of everything, please consider adding just a few words about what your product/framework does.

A very disappointing article with a misleading headline. Is it just me or is the quality of popular science writing declining?

What about audio books? I've read more in the last few years than the decade before, since I switched almost entirely to audio books. In many cases they are much better than the printed version. Case in point, Ulysses by James Joyce. T

I believe that USGS maps published after 2009 use NAD83, which for practical purposes is identical to WGS84 used by GPS. Also, beginning in 1984, older maps have both NAD83 and NAD27 tick marks. If in doubt, check the datum designation at

Wow, the most amazing space venture in a very long time, over 9 years in waiting, and you complain about JavaScript? I'm sorry, but I just don't understand. I wouldn't care if the images were delivered to my house as a deck o

I live near a town (Ashland OR) full of wingnuts who are worried about EMF, chem trails, and vaccinations. My question: with so many real things to worry about, why focus on false ones?

Just FYI, from the Washington Post article on the estate tax, "The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates that only 120 farms and small business, where at least half the assets are in farm or business assets, had to pay the estate tax

But climate change has nothing to do with Al Gore, and how he might behave or misbehave. It's simple physics, and politics doesn't come into it. I agree that politics does come into any future response to climate change, but it do

But the article states exactly the opposite. Rates are determined by the state of the economy, and hence there is no such thing as artificial rates.

Isn't this known as a "death spiral". Try to cut expenses faster than revenue is dropping, until there's nothing left. I don't see any good news here, and don't imagine that BB will exist as an independent comp

Agreed - I am using Virtual Box right now on my MB Air to run some specialized astronomy software. I always tell people that Macs make the best Windows machines. I'd really miss this capability.

But this isn't shown by the article. Cycling dropped, but there is no indication that this was caused by helmet laws. A much more detailed study would be required to determine the cause of reduced cycling.
