True, but it's safe with memory in ways that non-GC'd languages usually aren't (buffer overflows, use after free, etc.) so it's worth mentioning the GC bit.

I personally like the CNN new feed for keeping up on new developments: https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/coronavirus-outbreak-03-0... I also like the wikipedia articles because of the nice data tabulation: https

IIRC there was a study done showing symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers had the same virus load. So while you simple reason is correct, there's not much else if I understand things correctly (please correct if wrong.)

Oh, don't get me wrong. The U.S. totally botched this, and it seems like it has had one of the worst responses of countries I've followed closely.

There has been research done showing the virus load is the same between asymptomatic and symptomatic carriers.

They almost certainly have more than 61 cases, if 12 are already dead. I'd say hundreds, if the only people who were on track to die did die already.

Yes, at that point several large clusters will appear within days because of how fast it spreads.

Yes. Besides being distinctly more like C++ than C, there are other less complex languages (zig comes to mind) that are contending for that area.

The observed mortality rate already accounts for advances in medicine that are actively being used, no? Mortality rates are easy to compare: x% died back then and y% die now. Those numbers take into account the various characteristics of th

Uh, they don't calculate the mortality rate of the virus by guessing how many people would have died in 1900's care. The mortality rate is that high because that's the percentage of people currently dying. Mortality rates are

That's like saying cancer treatment centers aren't very good at helping people survive because many people who visit them die. So maybe you're right. But maybe it would have broken out 100x worse by now.

The virus isn't going to be airborne naked as an individual thing in the free air - it's going to be in droplets of stuff (from sneezing, coughing, etc).

Tariffs and taxes? We've (USA) been central planning for a long time. Just like we've socialist for a long time (welfare programs). You can achieve goals by warping the markets, not just dictating what should happen.
