Relative to other agencies, the pay is good. Relative to any equivalent job in the private sector, not so much.

It's a great beginning tutorial in python. I've been coding C/C++ for ~4 years, and when I went through LPTHW, I found it frustratingly oversimplified.

This could've helped me last week. I was pulling my hair out debugging a CUDA implementation of the SHA3 candidate BLAKE, and after a full week of debugging the same 70 lines (and one complete rewrite) the issue turned out to be most-signif

To add to the myriad criticisms, I would only point out that quantum computation was first proposed in 1982 by the late great Richard Feynman, not by Deutsch.

The reddit hivemind does something ferociously stupid that makes all internet users look like drooling morons -- is this news to people?

Shameless piggybacking: Also look into the work that complexity theorists have done with quantum complexity classes like BQP.

I'm not sure how to parse your request. "explain the algorithms with code instead of math" is what's tripping me up, what exactly are you looking for? Algorithms are often described as pseudocode, so you want a book that explains pseudocode

That has to be one of the most tortured opening metaphors I've ever seen in a tech news story. Could they really not come up with an analogy more elegant than, "This building over here is pretty big, but this building is REALLY BIG!!!!"?

Of course not, but if we accept as axiomatic that corrupt people will exploit anything they can, then whose fault is it when the exploitation occurs?

Taking advantage of a broken system to make a profit isn't demonic, it's capitalism. People and companies respond to incentives, so if we want these types of companies to cease to exist we must destroy the incentives that caused them to exi

A similar theorem exists in probability theory, called the Lovasz local lemma. I think the goal of rjpilton's analysis was to do things using elementary methods. That said, you might be able to use your approach for a quick and dirty approx

Eh, give CNN some credit. They could've done a whole lot worse, that article did a decent job of presenting both sides.

See the entire field of number theory for something that didn't have applications when it was conceived. Gauss, Euler and the other early number theorists were essentially just amusing themselves with stuff like the phi function. Then crypt

I don't know if preprocessor macros are the best way to unit test C. There are fully featured (and free) unit testing suites out there for c/c++, Boost comes immediately to mind. No need to re-invent the wheel, especially not when there is
