That's pretty laughable. What exactly prevents people from putting parsing directives in a special object key or list entry at the beginning of the file?

That's pretty ugly in practice. A better solution is to use YAML for things like configuration files. It's more pleasant for a human than JSON would be even if it supported comments, and there are nice parsing libraries available

It simplifies generating JSON, since you don't need a special case for the last item, and it simplifies editing it, since you don't need to do something special when adding a new item at the end. I can't see any benefit to n

This is what I do, but it basically just has the effect of making the first item special instead of the last. That's usually better in practice, though.

I have to take issue with your inclusion of "Modern C++ Design" in a reading list about learning C++. If you're new to C++, that is exactly the sort of thing you _shouldn't_ be reading. "Modern C++ Design" is r

I read this comment before actually going to the site, which is fortunate, because I'm certain I would've missed the rest of the content if you hadn't pointed that out. I rarely complain about design issues on websites but th

Honestly, this is pretty similar in effect to a UITableView-style wrapper, except that it's handled automatically by the platform. Sophisticated JS-only webapps are perhaps a different case, but a site that consists primarily of HTML a

I agree that the GC is a bad fit but I don't see any reason to believe that the interpreter is a particularly bad thing to write in Java. Can you elaborate on your reasoning?

I don't know that I'd characterize this as a workaround. Infinity.js is definitely a good approach, but you should expect good baseline performance from the browser even without more complicated techniques.

In the case where you view a direct link to the image, Safari, Chrome, and now Firefox will all display them with the EXIF orientation respected.

There is zero chance that client side verification is the only thing that will be used to authenticate purchases. Presumably the fingerprint is used to unlock your saved iTunes/iCloud password, which is then sent to Apple's server

I've started to use relative line numbering (numbers.vim is highly recommended) and that has made me use 'j' and 'k' in motions quite frequently. I wish I had made the change earlier!

Post-C++11 you can work with strings at compile-time using constexpr template functions. IIRC you need something along the lines of this: > template <size_t N> constexpr foo(const char str[N]) { ... } The fact that constexpr string

Perhaps surprisingly, while it's technically true that Haskell is a newer language than Perl, the difference is only three years - Perl dates from 1987 and Haskell dates from 1990. I wouldn't put it in the same bucket as Go, which
