There's always Boot Camp. For me, at least, this has gotten a lot more pleasant with Yosemite - rebooting into Windows is incredibly fast now! I've been playing modern AAA games on Medium graphics settings at 1080p (or sometimes 7

That's exactly what I do and I find it to be a great improvement over the stock bindings. I also bind "q;" to behave like "q:". Unlike others in this thread, though, I do find the original behavior of ";"

I really need to check out Scala! Thanks for the reply. (And I'm also interested to hear more about OO as naming.)

Something like Smalltalk or Ruby is certainly closer to my preferences. The focus on taxonomy is definitely most obvious and most painful in languages with static typing and fewer dynamic features. Can you suggest an OO language that really

I'm not so sure. There's some truth to what you're saying, but by "is a", statically typed OO languages generally mean something much different than what we mean by that in human languages. I find OO's obsessi

What was the premise of my question that you thought was in error? I'm guessing the answer is in your last paragraph: there are no large, complex FP projects because such a large project inherently isn't good FP. We'll have t

I'd really like someone on any side of this debate (and there are certainly more than two; for example, some people are advocates of "FP in the small, OO in the large") to write an article that does describe how their appro

The type of h isn't so hard to understand, there. |auto| gives you a value; if you want a reference, use |auto&|. This rule actually makes |auto| more readable: you always know if you're looking at a reference or not. Probably

Many languages zero every allocation unless they can prove that you immediately write over that memory without reading it.

That's gotta just be a flaw in the implementation, if the title of the issue ("Exponential parsing") is accurate. Any PEG can be parsed in linear time and space.

We'll need a solution in CSS for properties like background-image and border-image. (Indeed, there have been multiple proposed solutions already.) It would be nice to use the same mechanism for both CSS and content images instead of in

I strongly disagree that I am "thinking wrong". I think you're saying that design patterns are a useful abstract way of thinking about your problem that you then translate into code using whatever tools are available in the l

You are right in such a deep sense that I wish I had more than one upvote to give. This is what people mean when they say a design pattern represents a deficiency in a language: the very fact that it's a design pattern and not, say, a

I agree that this is the case for a lot of people. It's not a judgement of their abilities or anything like that; it's just that, as a practical matter, to really understand some things you have to commit and actually solve some r

Indeed. And once you have interfaces with default implementations, adding state gets you even more power. For example, intrusive reference counting and intrusive data structures generally are very useful applications of multiple inheritance
