This is quite in line with what I remember as well (and have verified by looking through many old editions recently). I think this is just the outcome of modern business practices in the US. It's a race to the bottom of quality, while

It seems you've stirred up the minification cargo cult, who all seem to be ignoring the actual performance data vs compression . Thank you for the article!

Huh, you'd think all you need are some books on the subject and some fairly generic lab equipment. Not sure what a neural net trained on Internet dumps can add to that? The information has to be in the training data for the AI to be aw

Go to: nhc.noaa.gov/gis There's a list of data and products with kmls and kmzs and geojsons and all sorts of stuff. I haven't actually used the API for retrieving these, but NOAA has a pretty solid track record with data diss

I have a very similar train of thought roll through my head nearly every day now as I browse through github and tech news. To me it seems wild how much serious effort is put into the misapplication of AI tools on problems that are obviously

The idea of the tool you're using "hallucinating" is quite asinine. It makes me question why anyone is building products using ML systems that can do that. Like, why put a rudder on your plane that very rarely just decides to

"to dumb us American's down" We have literally been doing that to ourselves, for about 30 years now. We've absolutely been steadily handicapping our education system for decades. "wars are raging" Um who starts

You've hit the nail mostly on the head. Paper is a problem, for obvious reasons, especially the amount of triplicate hand filled forms that require all of your PII every time. The second issue is access control vs. expediency. Millions

All very correct, and to add to this as someone who's had direct consequences due to my information being sold: we have more sensitive personal information, and that information is more sensitive than that of an average civilian. The h

Anthropomorphizing in this way (sacrificing all accuracy for the sake of a nice, bite size analogy) immediately removes credibility of the article. Me writing a science article on solar power and I open with "The sun is just a large fl

Agreed. I think it should be taught, but taught from the HISTORICAL perspective, not from an arts/culture one. "This is an example of low brow comedy from a certain era" rather than "This is the greatest set of plays eve

I believe you don't know the definition of a meme, if that is your take. They are by definition widespread, and can be pretty much any editable electronic media type.

Honestly, with things being as they are, I think the general sentiment of customers is that they do NOT want customer outreach; or, they want a single, high quality, hand written outreach. Apparently we don't like being brow-beaten int

I have something very similar. When I get very focused on something, you can ask me what I had for breakfast, and I'll vividly remember and recount making an omelette; but that was three weeks ago. This goes for pretty much anything, e

The term you're likely looking for is the Five Paragraph Order, commonly called a SMEAC as a pneumonic. It's quite a bit more tuned for warfare then Agile is.

Most the problems described here are just bad software engineering. Never seen a PM with any oversight on which DB is used, how shiny the tech is, how the API works, any of that. It definitely seems like there's a lack of coherence and
