The heart attack detector seems great, but I wonder about the cancer detector. It may lead to a high number of false positives resulting in unnecessary exposures to CT scans, which because it uses radiation can actually lead to cancer, and

You can have SQL already, use ddp methods to query a database on the backend. It's not reactive, but it enables you to use SQL.

For those of us who are Americans, isn't it amazing how the companies that provide us with access to the internet are pretty much among the most hated companies in our country? I feel like I'd rank them almost up there with Hallib

I'm using Opera instead of Chrome. I use Chrome Canary for web dev, but Opera is basically Chrome sans-Google. It's got all the same features as Chrome as it's based on Chromium. Just none of the Google account features. I&#x

I'm not sure if linuxydave is joking, but for those not in on the joke, Hacker News is written in arc, a Lisp variant. Hacker News resembles early versions of reddit quite a bit and Reddit was a ycombinator funded startup. Early on the

Was there one specific problem with web.py or multiple issues? Was there ever a write up about what you guys learned from trying web.py? Would be an interesting read.

That detail is implementation dependent. The site that wants to push to your browser hits up a third party push service provider that the user uses to get push notifications. That will probably Apple for iOS and Safari, Google for Chrome an

The push API is pretty awesome, the key difference between it and websockets in term of what it offers is this bit: > A push service allows a webapp server to send messages to a webapp, regardless of whether the webapp is currently acti

The picture is from this year's keynote, as that's the blue shirt he was wearing this year. He wore a black shirt in 2013. It's just the slide in the background are of the older phones.

Crime is a function of law, an action is only a crime if it breaks the law. So no legislating the law by lawfully elected individuals is not a crime. This is true even if you disagree with the laws that were written. I will be candid and sh

If you pay someone to commit a crime, doesn't that make you criminally liable as well? How are they going to reimburse someone for being caught breaking the law? That seems less than sane.

It's totally possible to load balance websockets. You turn the web sockets into a dumb proxy that talks to your service. You could have a bunch of SockJS servers, with people connecting to different ones communicate with each other ove
