I have had some classes that employed a similar method, it works in some cases (small class size, professor and students are very familiar/good rapport) but in general this is how it would go in my experience: - Students group up for 5-10mi

Kind of surprising to not see node+socket.io in there, but it is nice to see some python projects (Celery/Eventlet) doing the same job. I'd be curious to see if they end up swapping that out if/when scaling becomes an issue.

Extracted this out of a side-project that I am currently working on. In about 5 minutes, you can have a GetHipster inspired landing page up and collecting emails/Twitter. Slap on a custom domain and start making your actual app.

Good article. I like that it was more approachable than a journal paper -- as a developer, I am interested in these kind of algorithms but sometimes I don't even know where to begin searching. And as someone without a math PhD, I appreciate

I really liked part one of this series. I find myself falling into the pitfalls that the author described, often without knowing. I find that it can be equally effective to partition a "difficult" project into easy and hard parts to achiev

So did Leah Culver's other web-chat project ( http://leafychat.com/ ) get rolled into this? It looks interesting, I wonder if these type of projects will eventually replace IRC. I could definitely see popular open source projects using this

Sounds really awesome, wish I didn't live so far away from SF or had a bit more notice :) Hopefully they stream or have videos up, I really want to see the talks from @ryah, @jashkenas, and @jacobian

I checked the FAQ briefly and didn't see this mentioned -- what happens in regards to the design rights of something I submit? I see that I get a royalty payment and a one-time lump sum, but do I retain the rights to my own design? Can I

This article really hit home for me. Over the past month or so I have been blogging about my own side-projects and things I am reading about or playing with. But now that people are reading it (very few, but people nonetheless), I start f

I wish there was a good way to find designers that are trying to build a portfolio or just like making stuff for the hell of it. I hack around on weekend projects for fun all the time, but I don't have much desire to start a business or tr

You can roll your own with Qt's Webkit module; load the page programmatically and then render the frame into a QImage and save that as a png/jpg etc. You can use the Python bindings and hack something together in under 50 lines of code. Ho

Why not just word it as "Read this book"? You pay $X to read the book, you can't lend it, copy it, re-sell it -- just read it (and re-read it if you want).

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this just websockets, not the whole of Socket.IO (i.e. fallbacks for non-supporting browsers)? There is also: http://github.com/SocketTornadIO/SocketTornad.IO which is a port of Socket.IO that runs on T
