While I appreciate the sentiment of the article, and I agree that drawing is of the "1st degree" (I also believe speech to be of the first degree) a mistake is made here about the nature of drawing. Some of the argument falls apart when you

The state of music commentary on this thread is low enough to be insulting and pretty much validates the article. I find it humorous that a website that draws people dedicated to abstract thought can have such a mediocre understanding of mu

What about topic branches? You have a cool idea and you don't want to break the main line of work. You at the same time want history of the development of this new cool idea. You also want to be able to continue to bring in critical work fr

Some applications work best on the web. Some applications work best natively. I don't really see this is an either/or thing. I've been doing Cocoa programming and heavy amounts of JavaScript for some time now. Anything bad one camp says abo

I'm curious as to what you mean by slow? Maybe you would see this on JVM cold run, but after that it should be pretty darn fast.

I'll always have a soft spot for Squeak. And still don't totally understand the damn thing. Pharo is pretty slick, http://www.pharo-project.org/home . And Gilad Bracha of Strongtalk and JVM fame is also doing interesting work with Newspeak

Contrary to popular belief (and my own personal preference ;), you can hack Clojure from Vim, Intellij, Eclipse, and Netbeans (the most full-featured at the moment besides Emacs). Don't let Emacs stop you. Happy hacking.

I cover scraping Hacker News and the New York Times. The templating examples show how Enlive keeps a clean separation between HTML and code. Template inheritance is just function composition.

Clojure isn't an optimizing compiler because the JVM is the optimizing compiler. Clojure datastructures are all declared static final which allows the JVM to work a lot of magic. I've been using Clojure for a year and half and never run int

What are you saying exactly? That fib shouldn't be defined in terms of tail recursion? Of course it doesn't have to be. But it's also the moment that you realize that for loops are entirely unnecessary and broken since they aren't composabl
