Why not just call into a C/other compiled language library in this case? It'll be faster and it's not like you're getting the advantages of Lua in this case because you're not actually integrating it. In the ideal c

Even if they're not doing anything nefarious with that data, I'm against telemetry other than crash reports because data driven design makes for boring art.

I like the original programming content the BBC produces. I don't like the BBC, and BBC news in particular, at all. They propagate bias in insidious ways like 'creative' titling of articles, pushing articles off to side chann

Not requiring a battery is actually pretty genius because it covers up failure in testing as user error. "No, no, the device isn't useless - you just don't have enough static electricity to power it!" Repeat until you ge

Absolute pitch may not be possible to learn as an adult, but what they're describing is having good pitch memory, which is different from absolute/perfect pitch, and is definitely something you can develop with a bit of practice.

The first real 'killer app' game (Half Life Alyx) released coincident to GPU prices going nuts. People got interested in VR... then couldn't upgrade their PCs to run it.

Does anyone know any more about the Apollo Moon Project simulator? It looks remarkably advanced for 1967 and I can't find anything more about it. Would love to see the code for it.

Are you implying this wasn't intentional? France (alongside Belgium) practically invented the comic industry, but in recent years I'd imagine that's been getting decimated by east Asian manga. If you want to inspire a generat

The amount of slippery slope argument and strawmanning on HN when it comes to topics like this is pretty embarrassingly Daily Mail-ish.

The largest streaming service in South Korea is AfreecaTV, which is P2P; I think the problem, and why this wouldn't work with Twitch/Youtube etc comes with expanding it globally, as you have places with very weak upload and fewer

This ignores the fact that cryptominers sell their old cards on to gamers, at a value which, due to the shortage, is potentially even higher than what they bought it at. The only way out I see is flooding the market or a crypto crash.

What this article doesn't mention is all the failed attempts at creating collectible value, leading to a survivorship bias that implies rare+finite=value. Something being rare doesn't imply value, it's the combination of bein

I'm a designer, and this may be a cynical take on this but all I see is Apple shifting to skeumorphic design just so that they can go back to flat in 5-10 years and go "Look at how timeless our previous designs were!"
