Well one alternative could be something like kinect, if you're willing to stay in one room. Although that might be harder to make really low latency?

I agree, but I think it's mostly mutual - there are lots of opportunities for part time jobs but most people prefer full time employment. In fact, in Sweden there's a law that allows parents of children under 8 to work 75% of full

The problem with that is the delayed gratification - most productive endeavours these days require months on end of hard work before any reward can be expected - especially if you start out as a non-expert. Reminds me of the famous toddler

I think about this a lot. I think it has most to do with that people don't only care about absolute wealth, but also relative wealth - keeping up with the joneses, if you will. As long as social status is connected to wealth, this will

Well you're probably gonna need a phone anyway, so the question is rather why someone would pay $70 for an extra device rather than $70 extra for a phone with a good camera.

I wonder about the health aspect of this. It seems there is very little known about long-term exposure to high intensity ultrasound. Also, there could be a risk of ear damage if a non-linear material came into the sound field, and producing

Aren't you forgetting GIF? Not a great format admittedly, but in photoshop there's even a "lossy" slider.

That's not fair - you can look at this algorithm as doing nearest neighbor interpolation. No matter how you look at it, (bi-)linear interpolation will be more accurate, whether gamma corrected or not.

Thanks! Also, since alot of OSX paths contain whitespaces, I had to modify the mark function like so: function mark { mkdir -p $MARKPATH; ln -s "$(pwd)" $MARKPATH/$1 } Disclaimer: I'm not very good at ba

>Fuel is cheap Not true considering you need to bring that extra fuel up in the first place, so you need a lot more fuel just to carry the weight of the descent fuel into space. It is a really tricky cost/benefit equation, but Musk

Nope, because phones don't have altitude detection. The only thing it can go by is accelerometer data, and you can infer what that data should look like using high school physics. They probably measure the duration of "weightlessn

Well there is quantum tunneling but there is also dennard scaling, so it goes both ways. Transistors need to be small but also non-leaky, so that's why everyone's toying around with exotic materials and structures.

SIMD, you say? Are you relying mainly on NEON optimizations or are you also doing encoding stuff on the GPU? Very impressive performance I must say!

That's one way to look at it. A more rational view is that "women skills" or what you might call them, are in higher demand in today's society than traditional male skills such as fighting, being agressive and lifting he

The most incredible thing in this article is the assertion that there exists at least one math professor that is unaware of this theorem - I was taught all of this in the first algebra course at university...

I have attended events like this a few times in the Stockholm area, and although quality varies, I generally love it. I wish there was an easier way to organize and invite people to these types of events - maybe a kickstarter-like website?

Another cynicism that comes to mind - this won't only help staying ahead of competitors, but also perhaps persuading owners of older iphones to get a newer device, even though they were fully satisfied up to this point.

The title piqued my interest in how to implement rounding of floats, on the bit-fiddling level - certainly not an easy task! Disappointingly though, the article starts out by using type casting. If it's a solution on that level we're after,

Interesting story, but I find the whole cinderella angle extremely tiresome. Isn't cinderella about women dreaming about being courted by a rich man? Seems to me there are plenty of rags-to-riches stories/legends that are better fits - but
