Their choice was not between Neil Young and Joe Rogan, but between enabling the freedom of expression or backing down in the face of an outward pressure. If anything, it makes Spotify as a platform more credible.

While accurate, it isn't a full answer. Substack does provide profits for venture capitalists, but it does so by fulfilling a particular market demand - demand for a censorhsip-free (or censorship-lite) platform. It is a somewhat niche
