It is a continuum, and we are way to the right on a log scale in terms of event intensity. I agree we can do certain things like require people to have flood insurance. Neat reference, but you are misquoting it. The homes are not built in a

Great idea! I would like to see what happens to their dyke system when 3 trillion gallons of water pours in. Don't think it would end well.

"These people" cannot comprehend what 3 feet of rain does to a city, because nothing like this has happened in recent history.

Hurricanes don't affect the Netherlands. No amount of planning can prevent devastation from a storm that drops three feet of water in your front yard. You seem uniformed about what is going on here. This hurricane was bigger than Rita,

Should we restrict human expansion and destruction of coastal wetlands? Is it smart to live in a place where flooding is the norm, and it's costs must continually be subsidized by local, state and federal government? Is it fair to spen

Surgery might be a "one-off", but cancer surgery can be brutal. People with cancer who need surgery are often nutritionally depleted and surgery takes a big toll. Recovery time in the hospital could be weeks. Rehab, getting you ba

Fair points. Extracting data from the EMR is very difficult because all EMR was originally intended to only be a storage place for data - not designed to output data back to a user.

One potential problem with this - the question of liability, and who is responsible for diagnostic accuracy? In this case, for some "Lab on a Chip" device providing a patient directly with diagnostic information without the vettin

Trauma is the leading cause of mortality for people under 40 years old in the US, however it is very poorly funded in terms of research dollars compared to things like cancer, HIV etc. Datasets are limited and expansion with AI would be hug

You don't get it. The government limits the amount of residency spots. They fund the residency spots. And most students do not pay upfront, they go into debt to fund their education. Having students pay more or go more into debt will d

Limiting under grad education - sure, that is reasonable, that is how non-US countries do it. You get fast tracked to medical school after high school. But you still need some amount of undergrad education before medical school. But no mult
