I like it! Badge or not. I believe and hope that we will see less tracking in the future. Consumers will change this directly and indirectly through policy.

I’ve read a couple of those books. To me, many of them are too dull. School textbooks. The same books also seem to be on every list like this. Today, 12 years after finishing university I prefer the hands-on pragmatic books, written by pra

Something similar was posted to HN today as well: https://siepr.stanford.edu/news/drop-facebook I left my main Facebook account some months back. I was worried it would be a rough ride. But to be frank, I haven’t reall

My favorite is the lavender fields of Provence. When we came over the hill and this purple landscape opened up, it felt like a completely different world. The only problem with scenery in France (especially around the Rhone river) is all th

Things like this might be increasingly important going forward. In the long run AI needs to become more intelligent so that it doesn’t need big data to learn. Using large data sets tend to introduce biases more easily.

For Swedish harness racing there is only one bookie. The state has had monopoly on betting in general for a long time and is very strictly regulated also today. So, there won't be any arbitrage across bookies for these races at least.

Not rude at all! Appreciate the comment. I don't rule out that there is a bug in there. I did not spend much time on that part of it. It was definitely a side track of that project and had nothing to do with the main model. I do have

It doesn’t say that horse racing is understudied. It is saying that harness racing is understudied. Normal horse racing is very different to harness racing. Also. The simulated betting on on the favourite on those 26000 races was with one d

The article doesn’t really say, as this was a write up of a 20min talk at a conference for economists. The main model where vanilla ANNs. Also SVMs and LSTMs where tested but unsuccessfully. As I had a lot prior experience writing Java, mo

That’s all good. If an algorithm can predict the odds then you can compare the odds of the algorithm to those give by the bookies and voila, there you’ll find you under priced bets. Picking the favourite to win is a measure of how well the

That’s in fact what was done. Facts about the races (everything except for the actual odds for the horses) combined with Google Maps API. It basically predicted the odds of the horses (more or less).

I want team players with drive, who takes initiative, who are willing to learn as they go and who will speak up and tell me when I’m wrong. People with integrity and principles. I’m looking out for warning signals. People who will say “that

I think you need a basic understanding of data structures and algorithms. But there is no substitute for actually building stuff. Focus on building things above everything else. Theory and actual craftsmanship often are two separate things.

Have I understood this correctly; the optimised images are hosted at imagekit? That makes me a bit nervous. I prefer to optimise the images as part of the deploy workflow and have them hosted with the rest of the content.
