I don't see why Varnish would create one thread per allocation. They are using epoll/kqueue on an accept thread to handle new incoming requests. The requests themselves are handled by worker thread pool.

There's still a lookup hit of log-b32n versus contiguous memory immutable vector with O(1). Locality can also an issue with tree-like structures but muted with the large branch factor. Of course the flip side scala gives you the kitchen sin

It's still slow because it literally emulates the phone running on an ARM CPU rather than simulate ala the iPhone simulator which runs an x86 version of IOS.

Even if heaps were a first class data-structures wouldn't the choice between trees and lists exist in the underlying implementation? Ultimately you would have to allow for both or deal with the strengths and weaknesses of that implementatio

Thanks - looks like plus operator concat was in there in the beginning as well: http://docs.python.org/release/1.4/lib/node10.html#SECTION00...

That works but it's kind of a pain that the natural pythonic syntax: ['a'].extend(some-list) doesn't return a list.

Donor status is not a sticker in CA, it's imprinted on the license and IIRC I signed a form affirming donation during the process of getting the license.

Considering how bad the current google docs OCR is I don't think dropbox has anything to worry about. It seems to perform as well as the stock version of tesseract in tests that I've run.

It's worse since HBO's subscriber fee is closer to $8 per user per month. It's the most expensive cable channel on a per user fee basis. ESPN is around $4 per user.

No - Netflix has a non-exclusive license to the algorithm and source code from the winner: Belkor Pragmatic Chaos (AT&T et al.). They can't sublicense and don't own the patents related to the winning algorithm.

If you are you looking for typing or schema then JSON would be an issue. OTOH almost every XML/SOAP endpoint that I've used could be switched over to use JSON.

Plus it's not cheap to implement a proper address coding system that conforms to USPS let alone the rest of the world. The USPS data alone is around $4k per year to license (it gets updated every couple months.
