True, but those are the obvious risks you take as an investor. And late stage investors often negotiate downside protection in the form of liquidation multiples or ratchets.

Sure there is dilution, but the overall valuation has increased faster. I.e. the share of the pie is smaller but the pie has gotten a lot bigger, so you end up with a bigger piece.

I feel like JS is an expected part of the web just like HTML and CSS. How can you build engaging web applications if you are not even allowed to rely on standards like JS (e.g. if the user turns off JS)?

I'm not undermining them - simply stating that there was a vacuum created by the lack of competition. Even cloning successful services at scale is incredibly difficult, but it's not 0 to 1, it's 1 to n. Nonetheless, I agree C

It'll be interesting if the rumors of Apple Pay for web are correct[1]. One could see a near future where using mobile Safari, iPhone users could login and pay at any website just with the credentials stored in Apple Pay + Keychain and

Yeah I feel that tends to play out based on what class of VC you are. E.g. seed/angels -> high risk / big portfolio (100s startups) / huge win-loss multiples (but invest small $) traditional VCs/Seed A-C -> medium
