Administrators and campus niceties. There is a lot of competition between universities to get the best students, raise their academic profile and hopefully a successful/donating alum. In this competition they start trying to differenti

Don't you think looking at only gun homicide is a bit restrictive? Their violent crime rate is definitely going up[0], which is strange because afaik most violent crime around the world is going down. [0] https://en.wikipedi

Instead of dropbox, I'd recommend using something decentralized like Syncthing. I have a similar setup and recently changed to using Syncthing to keep my password database synced on all my devices.

I see your point on calling it "Autopilot", but if you think about the application of the term in terms of aviation, I think it makes more sense. Autopilot in planes won't land the plane for you. It basically will just keep y

Cryptocurrencies are most certainly divisible. You don't have to trade whole "coins". The biggest problem I see is the fact that it is a deflationary currency. Which makes it a pretty great store of value, but it also means t

That's fair, I was definitely reading between the lines a bit. Just seems like the kind of article that some people who are deep in denial about their health will point to as "proof" that they are just this way and cannot cha

It doesn't seem like the "business goals" were why the author was fired, I'm not sure where you get that from. It is certainly possible that these companies simply couldn't afford to pay them. So it was a choice bet

The point of these is body positivity basically. You are fat and it isn't your fault. Even if you do exercise it won't be enough. It is strange though, pretty much no one thinks that just exercising is enough. Any workout program

It blows my mind that "low minimum wage" is listed as a reason why minorities don't earn more money. It is well known that increases in minimum wage result in higher unemployment. It is very basic supply/demand. In fact

It isn't a guarantee that you'll never be in poverty, it is basically a guarantee that you will not be in chronic poverty. Poverty isn't exactly "easy" to escape from, but the steps to get out, or at least give your

The most successful people change with the times. In this case some kind of fish farming is your best bet for long term sustainability. Just like foresters plant trees, or hunters are involved in wildlife conservation efforts. Obviously the

I believe that different countries have different ratings systems. This is part of the problem as well. Germany for instance has recently crafted laws to try to financially punish companies for content on their site that is deemed "hat

That was the second link I posted. Either way, YouTube's profitability has little bearing on the second part of my comment. Unfortunately people decided to ignore that and focus on YouTube's profitability for some reason.

Yes, but even if big names like Verizon and Coke don't buy ads, it isn't like others won't buy ads. That ad space is still valuable, and most people realize that ads and the content they are in front of are separate.

First of all, YouTube doesn't make money. Secondly, there are two sides to this equation. The advertisers aren't paying for ads as charity to Google. They want the billions of views that YouTube gets every day. While I don't

Personally I think one of our biggest problems is universal voting rights. Only people who make a net contribution in taxes should be able to vote. Otherwise it becomes 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
