I was just about to comment on exactly this. The number / fraction of obese people in these photos is tiny compared to the people you see in modern US life now.

You may have an inflated sense of what a tower is for, and whether Europeans are better at it than Americans or v.v. Air traffic control (at least in the US) has the purpose of ensuring separation of air traffic . That is, to help ensure

That was a lot of comics and explanation just to say, "even travel eventually resets back into the familiar and dull, so instead take joy from being grateful for familiar things instead".

I don't quite understand why an instrument imploding was such a unique inadvertent experiment? I would have thought that part of normal seafloor mapping was using sonar/ultrasound anyway, or pneumatic charges or something simila

How did they make the concentrate without destroying all the subtle things I hear that wine is supposed to contain (and the yeast)? Did they boil it? Reverse osmosis? Vacuum?

I remember always being very impressed with the Japanese/Tokyo rail system being so punctual. But it was not until I saw this video [1] and read about it more that I understood that it was not out of some kind of "let's make

I commented in reply also above. Giving money to people who are reasonably well equipped to spend it on things that there are mature and reasonably efficient markets for is fine. No one has trouble finding groceries and standard items ne

I don't think you got what I'm saying. I mean that when you simply give money to people where there may not be efficient markets for some needed good (which you wanted the money spent on), private enterprise often will just expl

I have to admit I'm a confused mix of beliefs right now. I agree that funding for children is among the best return on investment [1] (to the point that I think we should rank initiatives and spend on kids first before anyone else gets
