The more interesting use to me would be to generate the look of the avatar based on the person’s face. Distinct avatars provide useful visual cues in software like Slack, Pivotal Tracker etc. but many people just don’t like taking photos. M

Which of Tulsi Gabbard’s views don’t align with the “political values” of Google? Sorry if I’m misinformed but from what I’ve seen Tulsi seems like a very reasonable politician. She may be somewhat of an outsider in terms of foreign policy

This article makes a number of suppositions without really critically exploring those claims. Some questions I have after reading this: 1. How does this compare to historical trends in the US? Did more kids in the 80s want to be rock stars

Unfortunately, I can’t think of any. Twitter could arbitrarily change where those elements are placed in the DOM at any time (and they probably will to prevent other extensions from blocking promoted tweets). I would just consider this out

Neat idea for showing off your design chops. I don’t use Twitter so I don’t have much feedback, other than your ad blocking code being brittle [1]. [1] https://github.com/thomaswangio/minimal-twitter/blob/e076

Here's to hoping that RISC-V takes off in a big way over the next decade. AMD and Intel's cross licensing agreement has essentially created a duopoly in this space.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I'll post anyway. I'm skeptical of the motivation for this blacklist. Prohibiting the use of Huawei products by government agencies and contractors is an action one could reasonably justify i

Great question. I can't speak to AVID's practices today (it's been over 10 years... damn I'm old) but for me it created a much-needed structure. Students within the program could take AVID variants of core classes simila

This story resonates with me deeply. I grew up in a lower income, single parent household to a family environment plagued with drug addiction and feelings of economic hopelessness. I was on track to drop out by my senior year of high school

Getting a template to render probably across all clients (assuming you’re working with more than just text) is already a rat king of client implementations, HTML specs etc. Some versions of Outlook, for example, use the MS Word rendering en

Macros work much better in homoiconic languages like Lisp than they do in other languages. Most of the code I write these days is in Elixir and I avoid macros unless absolutely necessary. The benefits generally don't outweigh the (long

You can cite individual examples of talented people who were born with privilege and I can cite entire genres and art forms that were born out of struggle. The foundation of Western music, the blues, originated on American slave plantations

I would agree if we were talking about hard facts like science or mathematics. When it comes to matters of society and culture, the salt of the Earth rules the Earth. How much great music, art, fashion, food, etc. comes from rich pricks at

I think a healthy mix of open-ended questions (such as those in your post) and closed-ended questions is key. Open-ended questions are useful for getting at how an engineer goes about solving a problem. Closed-ended questions reveal whether
