Maybe you should quit smoking. Seriously though, the iPad isn't made for the likes of us on Hacker News (though I still kinda want one). It's for people like my father who don't really give a damn what a computer is as long as it's easy to

Not in the slightest. Just because we're married does not mean we're together forever. Every day I wake up and see her is another day I want to show her how much she means to me. I don't believe in soul mates, but I do believe in true love.

One interesting part is that they used fewer calories of HFCS than sugar in the trial, yet it still prompted more weight gain.

I'm only as successful as I am because I wanted to prove to my girlfriend (now my wife) that I am worthy of her. Plus, she's hot.

I think the author fails to notice that with Git you can have your cake and eat it too. We use a centralized canonical repo for each of our projects as well as origin (developer) repos. With branches we can more easily add larger features w

Possibly the greatest thing about this release is the "Append Only File". The Append Only File is an alternative way to save your data in Redis that is fully durable! Unlike the snapshotting (default) persistence mode, where the database i

You should look at greenlet. Pretty cool stuff, used heavily in eventlet and gevent.

A key feature in RabbitMQ 1.7, unmentioned in this post, is native SSL support. Before this version, stunnel was required to talk securely with Rabbit.

I love Erlang--don't get me wrong--but this is flawed. He uses Tornado on a system that doesn't have epoll() so it uses select() instead, and then the author continues to show how Tornado will fail at higher concurrency levels. This is not

I'd say it's a little more similar to Thin, which is a web server based on EM.

The author mentions South Korea and its foreign policy several times. I would prefer to know more about (and attempt to predict) the foreign policy of North Korea over South, because of its closed-off nature. Did anyone else think that the

I would probably never use Pedant for a library that was never touched by other developers. Just like tests, Pedant can prevent others from breaking something (or at least bring attention to it). Ruby's implicit returns make this situation

Looks like you have to give your root password, which, no offense to Clever Collie, doesn't seem like a good idea. I'd prefer to see a shell script generator, or something like that. Full disclosure: I'm a developer at Slicehost.

Type in "Hacker New" and you'll note that the first result shows the site with it's URL, not just the name. Is that it?

A large reason of why URL shorteners are hard to maintain is the incredible amount of spam they receive. At Slicehost we seem to get spamcop emails every day about yet another URL shortener someone has created because the spammers will use
