Missing the first week of first year is a bad idea. 80% of college is meeting new friends. Initiation week (frosh?) is pretty awesome experience you will never get again. Money alone isn't everything.

You cannot pay to "jump the queue" in Canada if the health care procedure is covered by public health insurance which includes most things you'd expect a doctor to do or prescribe. You can only pay to jump the queue by leaving the country,

It's a fallacy to complain that Airbnb is a new idea or not. It doesn't matter if they are a new idea! It only matters how much business they are driving.

IPOs are good for the ego because it allows founders to liquidate their equity without selling control of the company to someone else. You will need to cash out eventually. Dividends may not be lucrative enough. Also, eventually your employ

One of my favorite interview questions for software developers is "how many lines of code have you deleted in one day?" The question helps assess their maturity. It throws some people who think software is about adding continuously. Senior

A commenter on this blog, L. Zhang, made an excellent point that most of Google's cash is trapped overseas. Repatriating it to the US to buy US companies would cost them 35% in tax. Borrowing US money at 3.75% to buy US companies is far che

Compare this to Apple whose cash reserves (~$66B) exceed the market capitalizations of RIM (~$22B), Motorola Mobility (~$9B), and Nokia (~$32B) combined. That's pretty amazing any way you think about it. http://www.asymco.com/2011/04/26/28

Very interesting story. I am reminded that tax software made it feasible for governments to make much more complicated tax codes. Legal software combined with the increasing acceptance of arbitration for civil suits could create this future

It's doubtful this is even legal, which should raise serious red flags. In many jurisdictions, if you're not (reasonably) compensated, the intellectual property belongs to you. In California, they have to pay you if you're doing real work.

This is a breakthrough and a welcome one. From a end user point of view, it has a couple major implications. First, I believe this reveals the complexity of the parser, which implies a complex syntax, which implies a complex user interface
