No. You can achieve the same benefits of local reproducibility with Nix/Guix. Guix is more composable IMO because you can program multi-service development environments entirely in scheme.

Looks like you have done a very thorough job here. I am eager to try it on some xstate machines as it looks like it can simplify readability a lot! Thanks for sharing.

In that situation you have nothing but deferred consumption (savings) accrued in your corporate bank account. You're just soaking currency out of the economy. It's fine if none of that money is taxed because it's not moving.

I don't think you understand how TCP works. A TCP connection can stay alive through an unplugged Ethernet cable if it hasn't sent any packets.

It's not always your service crashing you need to worry about; reliability also includes the network (and all of the routers) between you and your customers.

If you do this in your application code, you can just store it as a 64 bit integer in postgres and optimize your index significantly, instead of using a varchar as the backing data type. These ids pack just right into 64 bits.

You can afford them if you don't have project managers or sales guys begging for their demoable results of new shiny thing and promising it to others too early and too often.

Then you just end up with the first team continuing to produce garbage, and leaving it up to the 'fixers' to clean it up.

This is the democrazy we chose. It's not going to last very much longer. It is nearly impossible to make rational, level-headed decisions. Federalist 10 was prophetic.

The NYC data is the outlier. There may be contributing factors which are causing that 20,000 number to be inflated, not the least of which are the financial incentives for emergency funding for COVID diagnoses.

You can handle proper URLs in a SPA if you know what you're doing. It's not something your average frontend dev would pay attention to though, sadly. Server-side "isomorphic" rendering of pages is also possible but a lot
