One really important reason is not to tie your intranet to the Silverlight/Flash/runtime N roadmap. Better to hook up to something that will run in browsers without painting yourself into yet another proprietary corner.

There's an aspect of "I had to do this, so you should too" in recommending that list, but it's not fatal to the overall principle: if enough programmers get on the same canon of fundamentals, then they will all benefit from sharing a commo

I meant: Windows is designed to support a gazillion hardware platforms, and Microsoft goes to great lengths to make that happen. I guess I wasn't very clear.

"We wound up with a zillion fragmented versions, and writing applications that had to run on multiple platforms was a terrible, expensive task." Sounds like Windows to me.

It might be a fad on the day of the IPO, but if you break Groupon's business model down to its essential elements, it requires a huge number of leaps of faith to rationalize its competitive advantage and revenue potential. Goldman Sachs sa

50% of proceeds is not cheap for businesses. Discounts off MSRP is often not a bargain for consumers.

When this Groupon offering sorts itself out (and it will), it will have a negative effect for Facebook and other IPOs in the pipeline.

Doesn't it concern you that Groupon works best for services that no one needs ? I would say that in times of austerity, yoga, helicopter rides, health spas, parachuting, etc. are the first to go.

Yes, in the end either Apple will draw users into its "ecosystem" via iCloud, or it will remain a handy option for Mac-only users. Dropbox has filled a need for me (synching across multiple Apple devices) that Apple could easily expand to

I don't agree that cross-platform is a requirement. For example, I haven't touched a Windows-only PC in years. Also, Dropbox can't sort out access control precisely because it is cross-platform. That's just one example of many downsides

Things are very, very bad in Japan. Big Japanese companies outsource tons of stuff to small Japanese companies and companies outside the country. Those small businesses are folding fast. I know someone in Japan who went from a long, wild

The problem with not using the OEM is finger-pointing between the OEM and your non-OEM consultant. Also, I've negotiated with Oracle many times on behalf of customers, and it's safe to say that they are in the business of shifting risk bac

OK, but by "enforce", I meant "is the basis of a valid, colorable claim in court that ultimately prevails". IMO, that's the best measure of the paper's value/importance.

All contracts (including Term Sheets for early financing) are simply a manifestation of the parties' expectations. At the end of the day, relationships are more important. How often are these term sheets enforced anyway?
