Actually, I wasn't referring to gross vs. net revenue. I was referring to recognized revenue vs. cash on hand. If I can convince someone to give me $500 but I owe it all back to them, my only revenue should be interest/proceeds from inves

I'm no accountant, but my understanding is that cash on hand cannot be recognized as revenue if it carries a contingency (e.g., having to pay out to merchants). Please correct me if I am being naive on this point.

My point stands on it's own two feet. I never said Groupon was engaged in fraud. I was responding to the parent comment's proposition that criminal behavior is irrelevant to pre-IPO activity. Fraud is a criminal offense, and fraud is defin

Prey tell: what does the full quote add? It's still misrepresenting cash flow as revenue, if you ask me.

Just look at the closing comments in Mason's email to "employees": "We are generating cash, not losing it — we generated $25M in cash last quarter alone, adding to the $200M we had before. In other words, we’re doing the opposite of running

Well, that was my original point above – the difference between cmd-T in TextMate vs. Sublime Text 2 is that TextMate ordered the files with the most recently opened at the top. In TextMate, I got used to using cmd-t to jump back and forth

FYI (OT): The "Bionica" link in the upper left of your blog leads to the default github "page missing". The home link on the right is OK.

I agree. In particular: 1. Airdrop is great. 2. Full screen apps make me happy. (I only use one monitor, though.) 3. I love being able to group items by date last opened in multi-column view. My biggest gripe: Why doesn't the finder aut

I missed that somehow, although it seems perfectly obvious now. I'm flexible enough to relearn a familiar key binding. (How often do you hear that in reference to a text editor?!) Thanks!

I've moved from TextMate to Sublime Text 2 over the past few weeks. The only thing I miss from TM is the ability to jump back to the last opened file with command-t. Has anyone managed to hack their config to enable that feature? I unders

I saw similar interactive menus in Japan, esp. for Yakiniku. Their systems are relatively crude, but more than adequate. Press a button to summon your server, choose items off the menu, etc. I actually think you'd want more durable, and l

I'd bet that nine times out of ten, she's going to open that PDF as an email attachment. Then it's up to the OS to match the file with the app. I often think that email is the real file system today.

If the file type is arbitrary, and doesn't correspond to an app, then you're using your internal hard disk as a file store. There are better solutions for that.

I'm not sure what type of "documents" you're referring to, but the images could be handled as with any other media import upon attaching the drive – i.e., within the image browsing app. As for moving images to the USB drive, that's an ex

File systems and file browsers are just never going to be easy for users to understand. That's why Apple is slowly but surely hiding them entirely from "beginners"/"people who don't care to learn how to use their tools". Microsoft's soluti

You make a great point in general, but especially about gaming. It's not hard to imagine a world where "gamification" eventually leads to productive outlets that appear to be "games". In fact, we already have this in crude forms all over

If you want to think Woz and Bill Gates did "more" than Steve Jobs, then you are entitled to that view. I don't agree, but I don't care enough to argue my point.

My personal view is that chasing a legacy is a losing battle. I know some very well-known people who agree with me on that. As for philanthropy, I'm reminded of a billionaire friend who said his fortune was more of an administrative burden
