Gotcha. I think if you take the avg fund size divided by # of partners the avg partners gets $30-40mm of a fund. So management fees alone are in the millions for showing up to work. Seems a bit high with no track record. Maybe a better mode

I don't mean their performance - I mean that relatively speaking I have found Boston VCs to be bigger assholes than CA or NY VCs. For example, one Boston VC said our company was too soon and if there was any way to help let him know. So I d

The simple way around that - if you still want Foundry - is to get multiple term sheets and play them off each other. VC firms are like the Blue Angels - they'll follow each other into the ground if one of them leads them that way.

Seth and the Foundry guys are so awesome and helpful. I think there is a direct correlation to how accessible and helpful a firm is even if they don't invest and how well their fund is doing. I believe the former gets them the deal flow the

Are there any standard tutorials on what to turn on/off? I tried eclipse and found it so damn slow and buggy I never returned - that was a while ago - maybe it's better now...

I wonder if some of this has to do with guys like Fred Wilson really evangelizing the tech scene there. Most Boston VCs are just plain a-holes imo.

To be fair (and I didn't read the link above) - some of these low taxes may be due to losses from previous years. Not to say they aren't abusing international tax havens... but who wouldn't to save hundreds of millions?

Most VCs are sheep and follow trends. They see stuff being pimped out on TC hardcore and think they're going to miss out. I think QWIKI & QUORA are 2 big example of that. Hopefully they prove me wrong and are wildly successful, but not

I had this choice as well (HBS or start company)... last company grew to 100+ people, learned stuff HBS will never teach you. If you want to be an entrepreneur 100% then be an entrepreneur. If you want to do VC, IB, consulting, C-level exec

New England VCs have been some of the most difficult people I've talked with. SV and regional VCs have been much friendlier/easier/helpful. So saying they won't let another big one get away... they need to change their attitude for the most

Maybe one day, too busy now and I don't really enjoy writing. Have some good stories though. I'd probably start with "How I turned a $60 bottle of scotch into $2mm".

Not understanding your (potential) customers is often mistake #1. We spent 2 months talking to potential customers before writing a line of code and now have 1,000+ in a fairly small niche.

At a proposed valuation of $15+bn I really really hope they are doing something like $1bn in revenue or this is just not going to end well.
