Sometimes school teaches you the things you wouldn't take the time to learn normally but are so vital to your experience as a hacker. I value school in that respect, sometimes you need a push to learn something to open up your mind a bit. K

Out of curiosity, how is it that you've written a game programming book that is somewhat popular but haven't listed any of your game programming experience on your resume besides that book? No projects?

You should only fly people out if you are strongly considering them. You're going to pay this person $20-$35/hour all summer, what's $300-400 just to make sure they are exactly what you want? You do not have to fly people out, Google/hi5/

Most startups today (those you've actually heard of) generally do 2-4 phone screens which encompass a technical interview. You can utilize Google docs and watch them code. Take the feedback of everyone who interviewed (your team) into consi

Interesting, I can kind of wish you talked about Sam Altman since we don't know too much about him other than Loopt. Sounds like he's super motivated to win but I wish there was an example =)

Some might ask how is this different from Ning.com or Tangler.com? What are you going to say? How are you going to win? How will you overcome the customer lock in at established competitors?

Page tracking analytic services would not be useful with respect to what this article is about--they do not yield very insightful information to help learn about customers.

Close, if you use our analytics service mixpanel.com you only need to ping us data with a single line of code in which we graph, trend, and store all the data. We try to make life even easier =)

hmmm I wonder if we could hook in our platform mixpanel.com into your framework so there's a more robust solution to viewing the stats afterwords... our ruby support is a bit weak.

We do image A/B testing in less than 5, with just javascript: http://blog.mixpanel.com/2009/03/introducing-display-optimiz... If you do use their a/b testing framework, you should consider logging data to mixpanel.com just because we do a

Still in progress, I found a co-founder--it's going well. There are more followers than leaders, be the leader and start now rather than waste time. People are more likely to feel like they are missing out when you're willing to do it with

I imagine this is going to be a tough sell, prove you can ship early, fast, and iteratively and that there is no way you'll stop trying (even if you're living on other people's couches). With that, that's a difficult story to tell if you're
