Both of the janitors in my high school (small town) were two of the most prominent businessmen in town. One was worth half a million from an HVAC business, the other had owned three stores, a bar and a bowling alley before retiring to the j

Ideally, yes. But all that does is add to the market for human flesh, and we don't need yet another section of the impoverished being milked (this time literally). Furthermore, a large swath of mothers have been trained by Nestle to distrus

One wonders if Apple makes any profit on the 24.99, or if it's all to appease the old, angry gods. There's a limit of 25k songs, and Apple doesn't say if the music disappears if contract ends.

Call me when there's a commission of current leaders. Besides, the US is leveraging this situation very well in selling its darling industry to both sides of the war: small arms.

I don't know about the Erlang trolls, but the C++ trolls are out writing shitty internal corporate apps for Windows, leaving no source and forcing a company to use the buggy app in perpetuity. Real trolls ship.

That's because you've got a physical identifier of this concept in your mind. Does the idea of a pacemaker feel bad? Probably not, because your "heart" is an abstract idea--you'll probably never see it with your own eyes. A lot of professor

"Everybody" isn't cool. Cool is taking a hard, miserable lifestyle and through persona making others yearn for it. The starving artist is "cool," Facebook is populist tripe.

I used to work in a factory. We had a big sign that said: " n days without an accident." There would be parties and bonuses if there were long stretches without major accidents, injuries and fuck-ups. We're programmers and hackers--why, ex

Haven't we gone past that analogy yet? Apple isn't always high-end, Android isn't always utilitarian for the masses. If anything, it's two competing bazaars. Apple's just been able to attract more artists to sell in theirs.

Agreed. Flowcharts also assume that there is some sort of decision hierarchy that will be followed. Who's to say that derivative works are the most important thing here? Maybe some company/person needs to cover their ass in another way firs

It's a law of nature that you can build up a lot of energy in something by adding just a tiny bit of energy each pass. This was a bitter team that was beaten and decided to use physics to add this tiny bit of energy each time the tape rew

The ars post contains the tracking code. In addition, Ars also once tested out blocking content for those who ran ad-block. Frankly, I think this is less irony and more solid reporting despite the conflict of interest. (Or rather, conflict
