I think we need a new name for these type of jobs, then. They're not actual programming positions, since development tends to be about solving problems. Maintenance and production are two lexicographic options that somewhat relay the scope

You're right about that not being clear. I meant that it's traditional for guys to interact in that way, regardless of gender. Their emotional language may be patronizing, but the content is the exact same as if they were meeting a male hac

Canon's really come a long way with their software, I remember having to battle a lot of driver issues with their scanners under early versions of OS X. Their camera platform is a lot more engaging to experimenters, too bad I hooked up with

I see! This must stem from the culture of cheapness that surrounds a lot of restaurants; supposedly the industry is cut-throat. This just means that the problem needs to be attacked on a different front: marketing. Which is where the huckst

While the monetary cost is trivial, the amount of effort to turn around management is huge. This happens in a lot of corporations, where the best known subsidiary may have a radically different methodology. In this case, it’s Tazo’s approac

Some machines hum differently when they run. Do you feel cycles are wasted when visualizing a problem? The music is just a different thinking language.

Unfortunately Rand would have browbeaten you into oblivion. He was a legendary curmudgeon, and would often try to defeat the client's meddling by saying something like: "you pay me for a solution. I'll make it, then you can decide whether y

Offhand, I’d have to say the amount of bad/good software is similar to what exists commercially. The difference is that a lot of commercial software is either enterprise and hidden, or so obscure nobody cares. “Better” often refers to bett
