From the article: "It contends that the onerous nature of the rescue — the taking of what became a 92 percent stake in the company, the deal’s high interest rates and the funneling of billions to the insurer’s Wall Street clients — deprived

Not using amazon's method, but combining S3 + Cloudfront w/ DNSMadeeasy's Aname record, you can this works (example): http://www.customer.io http://customer.io No redirect, 1 s3 bucket, and they both serve up the same assets from cloudf

Ran in to similar issues. Not sure if you saw my article, but the forked version of s3cmd I mention handles invalidation excellently. http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Jekyll-S3-Cloudfront-Aname-Root...

Reminds me of when apple switched to intel hardware and it was believed that you couldn't boot windows. Throw some money after it and people will find a way.

Minor point, but he's talking about a bathroom in his parent's house in Paris, not where he lives in Osaka, Japan. Hadn't seen the lebanese style sinks before, but a quick google image search brought up this pic: http://www.lebanon-hotels.

I'm curious. Setting things like this up is my idea of fun. I use the same technique for my business. I like static site hosting, and liked the idea of things being speedy no matter where our customers are. Cloudfront does that well. As far

Me too. I saw that article. I had been using jekyll for a while. Then I decided to piece together how to replicate what the obama campaign did using s3 and cloudfront: http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Jekyll-S3-Cloudfront-Aname-Root...

Yup! We use Proxima-Nova. It's probably the next Helvetica Neue (i.e. hipster designers will be rolling their eyes at you soon). One of the things that's great about it is there are so many variations: Regular, Light, Regular Italic, Light

Happy to be supporting this project at http://customer.io . A lot of folks who use other tools want it to be easier to send the same information to everyone. Thanks guys for helping us all play nicer together.

I built a steambox a few days ago. Dropped $500 for a pretty performant dedicated gaming box. 8gb ram, 120gb ssd, and a $120 video card. The Steam big-picture mode is pretty slick, but not all of the games work seamlessly with an xbox contr

Yeah, overall the interactions and UI are really great. It's a shame the mail rendering isn't quite there.

Hey Mike, Right now my position is that for the effort, you're better off writing good content than worrying about your template. We've seen really strong performance from simple formatting (bold, italics) where the focus is on building a r

Hey Charlie, the second slide was just another example showing contrast between plain and fancy -- more of a talking point during the class. Both of them were reader submitted so I didn't have any data. It's something I'm interested to test

I saw Kathy Sierra speak at BoS 2012. After her talk, we wrote on our wall in the office as a constant reminder our mission is to: "Help our customers be badass at emailing their users".

People don't write bad emails because they don't care. They really do care, but the emails that come from startups are often written with a mixture of fear of being perceived as spam, and a lack of understanding of how to connect with peopl

That must sting a little. But, check out this workflow... there's an app called "Slingshot" in the Mac App Store (I have no association with it). Drag from skitch to slingshot uploads to dropbox and pops the uploaded image in your browser.

There's a magical formula to not make that happen. You write a sentence that makes the person want to read the next one. Even busy people like to read interesting emails.
