And that's a shame. I'd love to see a different way to look at funnels. It looks more like a feature added to remove objections from using mixpanel vs. kissmetrics rather than one that was more organically grown.

Step 1: Ask your product management folks: "What's the thinking behind X?" Step 2: If you know a better way, propose it to them and build consensus to make your idea happen. Step 3: If the company is on a bad trajectory and step 1 or 2 don'

If they don't IPO, how long until they run out of cash on their current trajectory? I seem to remember the runway was surprisingly short (something like this or next quarter), in part because of using fundraising to give cash to early inves

I've been following the housing bust. In 2009, I remember reading a resignation later by a guy who made his "F * you money" betting for a housing collapse. He blasted the big banks, ivy leaguers, and old boys network. I bought complex deri

This is really important stuff. I watched a good 25 minutes of the youtube video for Jewel vs. NSA. I really wish lawyers spoke like humans. I understand there's procedure in a courtroom, but it seems like that gets in the way of comprehens

Why slap the banks on the wrist with punitive damages when you could cut them off at the knees by actually making systemic changes to address some of the root causes of these types of bubbles?

My frustration with the freedom box is that the way they pitch it, it will only appeal to the nerdiest nerds. I think it's an awesome idea, but for it to make any impact it has to have better packaging.

It takes guts to end an ailing feature. Even with the feature struggling, it probably had more monthly active users than what success at a startup looks like to most of us. On the scale of facebook, it was clear that they weren't getting th

We've been on the brands first, users second path for a while now. We've been trying to align the goal of the brands to be better for users. However, brands are driven by vanity metrics. And focusing on vanity metrics drives you to high chu

Why? And why do this on whyday? It's totally mean-spirited. At the very bottom it says: "Relax, breath. It's a _whyday parady. Maybe _why would love this." Somehow I doubt it.

With so many different options out there for task management, it makes me wonder "Is task management a solvable problem?" It seems that every situation requires some variation of task management. Every person works in a different way. I try

We use the Devise gem https://github.com/plataformatec/devise and the default subject line is: "Confirmation instructions". I can't say anyone on our team thought to change it. Good clear language like "Please confirm your email address"

I'm an AT&T customer. When the first iPhone came out, I unlocked it and switched it to T-Mobile. Eventually I grew tired of unlocking and jailbreaking with every update and became an AT&T customer. Since I've been a customer, I've e

I found this statement pretty surprising. Maybe in the next step when it gets doubled, that's a more realistic number. $160k/employee? Either that or the only employee is an office admin?

I used to have a crossover cable which is basically a single ethernet cable where the two connectors are reversed. You eliminate a switch / hub and it is a ridiculously fast way to transfer between two machines.

How does this affect services like Vyprvpn? Are they an "ISP"? Or is that a loophole so as long as you're using a VPN, you're save from government snoops?
