I completely agree. The basics of networking, sockets, and the like are probably better taught before frameworks even come into the picture. To me, the idea is to get a shallow understanding of everything involved from hitting a page, submi

You're right, it is valuable to have a resource like this. I guess I was taking issue with the title of the submission. I think something like this is great to introduce to someone who already has begun to get their bearings straight.

I'm planning to introduce react after he has a few small js projects under his belt. I agree vanilla JS is not enough to land a job.

I'm currently teaching my brother web development and I guarantee if I were to show him this, he'd just quit. This is way too much information. All a beginner needs to know is JS and the basics of HTML/CSS/SQL. If they h

I agree the social movements sometimes go too far, but I try not to let perfect be the enemy of good, in this case. Another issue, I think, is media coverage. I think we often conflate the coverage of the subject with the subject itself. Ho

Hey, I appreciate your response, and share in your sentiment that responses on this subject can be very depressing. But I do think we as a society are trending towards equality. As much as the internet is supposed to connect us, subjects li

I think most people would agree that having rational, emotionally detached conversations about complex and sensitive subjects would be beneficial to society, so in that, I agree with the author. And from his writing, it does seem his effort

This is something I've argued about a lot recently, and I think it's very important to be aware of. All too often in political debates, the subject of some dystopian scenario from fiction will come up. Fiction serves an important

What a great talk. He brings up a lot of very important points that we all in tech need to consider and keep in mind.

I have a general rule to ignore any statistical interpretation in articles like these. Data interpretation is hard. There are a lot of variables that need to be accounted for, and under the best circumstances of academic peer review, we sti

We've been doing the same thing, and it's great. We've also taken more time to sell unused items, even if they're only worth $10-$20. I look at it as a more effective form of recycling.

It's definitely an apocryphal anecdote, but I'd believe it. I was a Scientologist for many years, and the number of similarities between a Dianetic Clear Valentine Michael Smith from A Stranger in a Strange Land is quite uncanny.

I'm probably being picky, but I would also include that the CLI be a self-contained binary. I'm tired of managing Python / Ruby / Node versions.

This was a pretty interesting read, and something I've often wondered about. I remember when LeBron James joined the NBA. It just baffled me at the time how some 18 year old high schooler could be so much better than professional playe

I'm reading a couple books at the moment. Valley of Genius[1] is a history of silicon valley, but told via excerpts and quotes from influential members of the SV community. It's quite a fascinating book, and I highly recommend it.
