Security researchers have to assume that if they've found a vulnerability, it's only a matter of time before the evil people will find it as well - that is if they haven't found it already. That's why all disclosures com

The way I see it, the root of the problem is that there isn't an independently verifiable association between a package and code commit hash that it's been generated from. My GitHub page can have good code, but no one has any idea

The caveat is temporary, really not that important. Works fine with previous LTS versions of the kernel and future versions not pulled into there current Ubuntu version. Some kind of bug in the current kernel version that the current Ubuntu

I’d say talk about it with the team, see there’s enough buy in from the existing team and enough awareness of the extra stuff to learn for both current and future team members. Then try it incrementally on some of the most hairy or type bug

The analogy I like using that of a carriage drawn by a large team of horses. Workers are the horses, and CxOs are the drivers. Management is the harness the keeps all the horses pointed in the same direction and running together. A majority

Maybe, but I don’t think there’s a CoreSunrise or CoreSunset. The problem isn’t in setting the brightness or colour tone, it’s calculation when to switch between them.

They'd likely know it had information on it, even if they couldn't necessarily read it immediately. Anyone storing information is likely to mark it or arrange it in some non-natural way, otherwise it'll just look like rocks.

How would that kind of disruption happen? Someone else also anycasting the CF IP addresses?

I've seen the "checking your browser" on HN message quite a few times, especially when I use a VPN, and I'm pretty certain it's the CF one. Maybe it's turned on selectively for high traffic / bot situation

Isn't HN on Cloudflare? How are we reading about a CF outage on a site that runs behind CF?

Similar feedback here - the only chapters that'll be useful to me are 7. and 8. It would be great if you can add the tentative list of chapters and topics you plan to cover in the website itself, so I can see what's going to come

The argument in the post is a bit of a strawman - for really simple examples like that indirection makes no sense. Saying "is_something_like" as an alias for "starts_with" is an unnecessary alias that does nothing for th

I don’t know about the folks you asked the question to, but the stuff I work on we just use JSON. Higher traffic might justify message pack or protocol buffers.

I’d say Java - most of our stack is in Go, but when it came to a modeling / business rules problem I found it easier to jump to Java 8+ (streams, lambdas), AutoValue for immutable objects, Google Guava for immutable data structures and

Think I have seen flight attendants use a touch screen on the intercom and the cabin lights / infotainment. I’d assume everything on the cockpit is life of death for ~300 people, so different rules apply. Imagine what a sick joke it wo

They’re not attacking anything - I don’t think ad blockers block search ads, which are embedded into search results - and Firefox royalties have always been for search.

There was a tweet by pg that Tesla is really a software company - that seems to be playing out more and more. They're basically making the car hardware only for sake of vertical integration, same as with Apple's phones. Both compa

It's unfair not to do it - there are customers who paid extra for the upgrade, it's not fair to give it to everyone for free, but a trial period seems reasonable.

They just won't buy the stand. I'd assume most offices already have VESA stands like [1] built into the furniture, which is why Apple isn't even bundling a stand with the monitor. It would just be wasted. [1] https:/&#x
