Wanted to take some time off to write a book on fullstack development, so I have to build a book writing and publishing platform first. Obviously. Working on https://papiary.com - I’m starting off with a reader, putting a few pu

I’m experimenting with this, they have Redis at every edge, with a way (SELECT 2) to send commands to all edges with eventual consistency. No RDBMS yet, said they’re looking at CockroachDB. I’m running a single central Postgres server on He

Not to rewind. Rewind implies changing something in your own past, but nobody's past changed. Only the futures of different timelines, if that makes sense.

I think the "next one" means "shut down the world". HIV/AIDS is horrible, but doesn't need us to shut down the world.

The Time Stone can't be used to "rewind" anything. Did you not listen to the 10 minutes of exposition by multiple characters on the truth about how time works?

To quality as the next one, a disease would have to spread very easily from person to person. And that usually implies airborne. Which usually means it attacks the lungs, which usually needs ventilators. Diseases that are differently transm

Sounds like it. This is not a vaccination. It may be possible that while these antibodies are working the body might also “learn” the virus, thus providing immunity, but that would be a side effect of the infection.

This is going to be interesting. There's actually a lot more value in just running a virtual conference like this, because they can now involve so many millions of people who wouldn't have been able to attend otherwise. Both Apple

I tend to feel a little intimidated by companies that offer fantastic experiences like this, but then I keep trying to remember this: Algolia looked like shit when it started. There was none of this shine and polish. IIRC it was some text s

Yeah, I’m gonna try this out. I’m writing a book authoring platform and I want to let people give access to their books on their own domains. Is there an API to add custom domains with LE certs to my app? And is there a limit on how many d

I tried adding Cloudfront in front of an app hosted on Heroku with page caching off (Vary by Cookie) and it increased latency to 3X, never could figure out why. Would like to do it but seems like way too much of a trade off.

Plaid is handling the credentials, and they work with banks with their cooperation. This is FUD - it’s no different from accusing projects using Stripe of hoarding credit card numbers.

While I'm not disputing the limit numbers or whatever hardship they might cause, it's worth noting that this is a basic limitation of the original Lambda model and maybe FaaS in general. The capability comes from running a giant p

Most of this rant is a disagreement of how Go handles file system differences between Unix and Windows, most of the rest is complaining about some badly written library. May be good to know if you’re dealing with any of that, but this much

A lot of apps that started with Rails take that approach, including Github, Airbnb, Basecamp (which technically started Rails), and a few others. Some companies start API first or mobile app first, which makes SPAs much more likely.
