This image was pretty thoroughly panned as being either ignorant or malicious - there’s as much light coming off planes in the sky, yet astronomers don’t complain about that. That’s not to say the satellite aren’t irritating, but astronomer

Each account's AZ codes point to a different AZ—it's a way of avoiding conversations like this where people think a particular AZ is better than others.

One pain point I have is that functions as a service systems like Lambda have an special event format - this is sorted out by tools like Up which will install a small adapter and let you run your normal Http server in lambda. https:/&

And in other news, continuously extrapolating exponential or compound growth without regards to maturity scenarios will result in whatever you're extrapolating eventually occupying all atoms and energy in the universe.

The Hippocratic oath isn't very effective — it did not prevent the development of bioweapons, drugs to carry out death sentences, or human destruction during WW2. If doctors can have their oath circumvented in a very tangible and obvio

Thanks for addressing this. Each of these points was an immediate worry as I was reading the post, nice to see you’ve already thought of them and addressed them.

Yes and no. The complaint is that some widely used extensions are proprietary. If these extensions require MS servers, then they have every reason to be. Even if they don't, there's nothing wrong with a company holding back some s

One related scheme is fountain codes, where you can split a file into a pseudo infinite stream of blocks such that finding N blocks will almost certainly allow reconstruction. Very useful in UDP / satellite transmission, where you can

Access is only via the service workers API. Basically it's exactly what your browser (Chrome, anyway) will run as a service worker, but running a little farther away. There are some extra APIs available as well, for key value storage a

I'm using Go, so the default no-config container is about 140MB. But it's possible to use a multi step build to bring that down to about 10MB (build it in a full container and copy into a very lightweight scratch container). That&

Yeah, Fly isn't "edge" as defined in the US, but sort of is as defined in India. CloudFlare, CloudFront etc tend to have one or two edge PoPs in India, and one in Singapore, and Fly has one (upcoming) in India, which is coinc

One alternative that's available right now is Fly.io — Fly actually runs Docker containers at the edge, so you get a lot of the benefits including autoscaling up and down, your application following the sun across the world, etc. I

No, the blog posts talks about using V8 isolates (V8 is a JavaScript engine). What CF does is support Rust via Web Assembly, and I think Go WASM might be supported. But they're pretty clear that they're not doing a process model,
