It is frustrating. Rolling back forever chemical regulations is analogous to reintroducing leaded gasoline. Should we be expected to debate and weigh the pros and cons of leaded gasoline? Some things require nuance, but some things are clea

I don't think the notion is always true of something being pushed on you automatically being bad for you. I agree that Windows is very user hostile, but something like mandatory updates where you cannot defer forever are good for less

I was not meaning to say that anyone was wrong for their technology choices. Personally I think Java is great and some of my favorite games are made in it. I'm just saying that I don't see jank or clojure for that matter catching

I think Jank will find its people, but I don't know how many of those people will be indie game developers. I'm sure some will be, but on the whole I don't think most indie game devs are clamoring for using clojure, if only i

Ah, thanks for the correction. I'm wrong on how common this is. I just tested CLion, VS Code, and Sublime Text. I thought all three behaved as described, but only CLion did. I wish it was more common though, I find it a lot more intuit

There are two things that consciously bug me about undo, * When you press undo, and the content to be undone isn't on the screen, it will jump your screen to the relevant section (good) but also with that same keypress actually undo th

Yes, Medicare too. Unless Congress intervenes, Medicare providers will see about a 4% cut every year starting next October. The new law's deficit boost triggers automatic sequestration cuts across the board each year for ten years. Tot

I've been using CLion since 2017. I recently switched to Helix, and one of the refreshing things about this has been that I'm now in an editor that can seamlessly handle every language or text file type. I think switching between

I have a mild level of hostility towards their brand due to the level of pedanticness on Stack Overflow. I think they've fostered an unwelcoming, hostile and elitist community that acts brashly to shut down legitimate questions, with a

I don't actually know, but I'd wager a lot that it's the graphics rather than the physics which causes the game to be slow. Generally the expensive thing in video games is rendering. Computing the next world state is generall

I think it's unfortunate if this is your only take away. Two things can be true at once: A) Diversity hiring is unrelated to the crash B) There is a real scandal with hiring and the FAA What I have read so far about this situation is o

I also like using Sublime as a text editor for my thoughts and notes. I don't need or want anything full fledged like a word processor. Sublime lets me write in a minimal format without distraction. Every action is instant and I'm

I'm not sure that this is true. Let's take a look at generics. In C++, we use angled brackets like myFunction<SomeType>(); This could however be done without introducing angled brackets. myFunction(myFirstClassType); which i

I don't have a source, but I have read that the reason this wasn't originally introduced into C++ was because they couldn't agree on what the syntax would be. So much pain because the committee is dysfunctional, it took a dec

I am in favor of banning TikTok, but not strictly because they harvest data. I am far more concerned about them manipulating people on a large scale, I think TikTok is an effective tool for manipulating public opinion and I have no doubt th

I was on Digg, and I switched to Reddit prior to the Digg exodus. So it's been a while, at least 15 years that I've been there. I think the quality of discussion on these sites has definitely gotten worse, but it's always bee

I'd like to report my experience trying out this release. I did a cargo install. I then used the dx command line app to create a new project. After initialization I ran dx serve in the directory as instructed, but it gave me a compiler

Should we not allow comments in HTML, then? There are parsers which allow for comments if one wants, so if someone wants to engineer an insane system no one is stopping them, provided they can ensure the parser on the other end of it. This

It looks like a more complete breakdown is here. Crystal ranks just below Dart at 0.5413 (Dart was 0.5295). Luajit was 0.8056. I'm surprised Luajit does worse than Dart. Actually I am surprised Dart is beating out languages like C# too

I'm sure stack overflow is a biased subset of users, and I imagine the people that fill out tech surveys are going to be more likely to use Linux. But it's the best data source on this that I know of. Regardless of the exact marke
