I love this article and wish there was more like it--thanks for posting. I also wish Piotr Wozniak would write a book (even though he'd probably consider it a waste of time). Work like his is so important, and positive, and humanitarian. Ev

I think r7000 (a significant improvement over the earlier r6000 model) was referring to the shamefulness of plugging his/her _own_ software. ;) So no Mac version? The site mentions an in-progress Linux version but it sounds like it's not ha

It sounds like you've identified someone's "pain." Have you further explored that idea? [A lot of startups begin with a story like yours!]

Are you looking for a PHP5 version? Here's a fork: http://kohanaphp.com/ Haven't tried it yet.

brent, why not an MBA? With your finance background and (I presume) a bunch of undergraduate business courses under your belt it should be quick and easy. There's no degree requirement for hackers--"MBA coder with financial sector experienc

That was my impression, too--the article seemed to focus more on the VC path to success, which is like making it big as a professional athlete or entertainer. For contractors and ISVs, I suppose you have to find a profitable niche.

I think in the right sort of corporate environment, a bit of initiative can give you a lot of opportunities the less-motivated might not have (or want). You also can learn how to work in a team, and probably have better hours than your star

"It depends." Taking a contrarian point of view, at the major corporation you might find yourself on a smaller team not unlike a startup, with supportive management, opportunities to work on diverse projects and a clear path for career grow

I do. Put the million in a savings account, move to an affordable area and rent, or purchase a living space and bank the rest, then live (modestly) off the interest. Or if you can tolerate greater risk, pursue investments with higher return

I'm assuming deals already get done here on an informal basis, and that's probably a good way to go. Why not search previous posts (on one of the search sites), contact anybody who seems interesting or relevant, and in general just network

Does this mean I can start developing for IE7 soon? [A guy can dream, can't he?] BTW, here are some links for anybody developing for IE6 (I feel your pain, brothers and sisters): Valid fix for PNG transparency on a single image http://www.

I'd go with 1) what works for you, 2) at that time, 3) with an eye toward future expansion. What #3 means is if you go with a simple solution per #1, make sure you can migrate your data. For example, I've seen many companies grow from using

Darren, you a CodeIgniter guy? If you haven't already, I highly recommend getting started with the new ASP.NET MVC framework--it almost makes working with .NET in the day job tolerable (yes, "almost").

I couldn't find the words "fitness" or "exercise" anywhere in the article. In my opinion any discussion of sleep habits should include exercise (if I was a doctor that's the first thing I'd ask my patients about). The writer does mention co

I guess D&D falls into the "do your own thing" category of entrepreneurship. It may have been inspired by an existing product (war games), but ultimately became a new type of game and had no guarantee of an eventual payoff. BTW is anyon
