The applications I work on do several database calls for single user HTTP request. Shouldn't the application server be as close as possible to the database, rather than to the user? I struggle to think of an example where your model is

Yes, user is a reserved word and `SELECT user` gives you the current database user. Notice how in the create table "user" is quoted, because it would be a syntax error otherwise. If you quote the same way in the select it will giv

I wrote django-postgres-queue for this purpose. It uses postgres transactions to keep queue and application state in sync. It also uses SKIP LOCKED to avoid some of the typical issues with using a database as a queue. https://git

You have your schedules mixed up. All controlled substances have a potential for abuse. Schedule IV drugs only have a 'low' potential for abuse 'relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule III', not low overall

I don't have any experience with this type of thing, so that sounds like an incredibly large amount of data. What are you doing that requires it? What type of useful queries are you even able to perform over 432 billion records?
