Slight correction, Android used to use PBKDF2. They've moved to scrypt recently. Cool article and good read. Thanks.

What is worse than rejecting is I know of one major site that would, at least used to, silently truncate long passwords. That was... frustrating.

I've seen /proc permissions from version to version. For example the available of /proc/last_kmsg changed at some point. In kitkat its only available to UID system and apps with android.permission.READ_LOGS[1]. Not su

Awesome! Thanks. I don't know much about the path from idea to standardized feature with the JVM. Is there hope for it in Java 9 or is this much farther out in the future? Probably first and more importantly, what is the chance for

I think its more that the "wat." comment wasn't a chance to learn anything new. It was just snark.

Cross-compiling and Canadian-cross isn't fun but isn't that bad. There are good projects out there to help in the process. http://crosstool-ng.org/ is a good project that can make it much easier. They have Ca

I would agree if they were supporting lots of smaller platforms but just skipping Windows phone. Someone correct me if I am wrong but Google only has serious app support for iOS and Android, correct?

I borrowed a Lumina 920 for about a week and really liked it. Well built, cool UI. I especially liked the calender. The lack of native google apps didn't bother me too much. I've got waze to replace gmaps, the lack of a non-sk

To be fair, for what I understand the lawyering up was more about it violating the terms of service and being able to save the videos offline and skip ads. Google can't be expected to support every single native mobile market out ther

That's the one. I'd be worried if there was more than one. Like you said, more power to them. Pretty cool it exists and honestly wouldn't mind trying it sometime.

As the other poster mentioned, the driver and firmware can be closed source. The rest of the Android WiFi stack is very liberally licensed. The Android Java portion is apache and the supplicant is BSD. You can do a lot to tune the stack

It is much much less. I just timed it on my machine. It was 8 seconds for a decent sized(~12M) app. A build and deploy takes much longer, but the long pole isn't the time it takes to install the app on the hardware. If you are havin

For a bit of history, once upon a time Android did have one of sorts. You can still see sprinklings are references to it in AOSP but I think the simulator lunch target has been removed. It was from the early early days and allowed them ru

That jumped out to me too. There is a significant performance hit when you make JNI calls. Last I looked not all of Android's API are easily exposed to native code. Constantly context switching from native to managed can be beastly.

Have you tried C Programming: A Modern Approach? It is very good with C99 but there is no C11. My only problem is that it spends too much time for people who are new to C.
