Monopoly is certainly not my idea of a good time. The monotony comes from the number of times you have to see the same board state. It's not even that I don't like long games. In fact, I adore them - as long as they're interesting. I would

I think you also missed the point of the message. It's more that, if what you want to write (given the state of the world at the time) was some software to help people organise their lives, then you have to hit it from a social angle. Peopl

More like, so much within the Air is still bloody expensive. I'd rather have space than SSD speed for the associated price. I want to be able to watch DVDs or burn off a quick disk. I don't want to have to step up to a bulky 15" machine jus

I never plan to upgrade from 13" to 15"/17". For me the main feature of a laptop is the small form factor and the 13" is just really neat in that respect. I have my desktop for when I need more power.

This article emphasises the important of building your baseline knowledge on the aspects that haven't changed since the dark ages (and probably aren't likely to for a while). As opposed to learning the flavor of the month web framework that

Does warranty come into this at all? There are terms in a lot of Free Software licenses that remove the obligation to provide support, accept liability for the product or even to guarantee its fitness for purpose. It seems to me that these

Thanks for linking that, I'd never seen it before and it was very fun to watch. Near the end Jamie says (slightly paraphrasing): "This could all turn into television again... a small number of companies controlling what we see or hear." A

Are you confusing Windowing System with Window Manager? I'll give you that Linux has a few better WMs than OS X. (I'm particularly fond of Openbox myself, and was always excited about the elusive 'Enlightenment e17'.) However, I cannot acce

I only use it as a cheap way to mentally background apps that won't be looked at as often (e.g. iTunes, running a server in Terminal). I find that the focus model tends to break down in Spaces for any multi-window application like Finder, C

I use scp to backup the folders I'm interested in. I use git to manage sharing data between machines. (Again, just the stuff I'm interested in.) I don't keep 100% synchronisation between machines. I don't back everything up. I'm happy wor

Is a power user now someone who needs all their documents synced using some cloud service? Aside from using Chrome, Quicksilver and Emacs, I find most of the other listed OS X defaults to be perfectly adequate for my needs. I'll handle my

Meh. I set my IDE to only keep 10 files open at a time. It's such an easy thing to jump into a file nowadays I don't need them all piling up in the background.

I hope they provide the option to disable it though. I'm a mac user - multiple windows per application is my bread and butter. I do agree that there needs to be better management of the tool dialogs though.

Geez, It was a joke. When did Hackers eschew humour again? Joking aside though - He did use the phrase 'entirety of humanity'. On the basis of that, I did not twist his words.

Entirety of humanity? ~ 1/12th of the current population of the Earth, sure. However, (as of a 2009 estimate) there have been around 106 billion homo sapiens to have lived. Not to diminish the impact of your statistic with pedantry or anyth

I guess the articles impact is that it's surprising that a company with a track record of producing high quality games would have so many alleged issues on the inside. Of course, whether or not you find it surprising is down to experience.
