Calling yourself rationalists: frames everyone else as irrational. It reminds me Kier Starmers Labour, calling themselves "the adults in the room". Its a cheap framing trick, belying an emptiness on the people using it.

An authoritarian streak amongst management. Something funny about dealing with AWS tech is that it's so full of bureaucracy, it feels like dealing with a soviet government department at times.

What is this? If it's not a hackable toy pig it'll be disappointing.

This category of app should absolutely be offline first. If the data is shared it needs to be controlled by the user every time and not in a way that automatically goes to advertisers.

I worked in Glu Mobile when EA took them over. The US folks were all told to leave immediately. In the UK they had to give us notice and pay, also negotiate with employee representatives.

Sure, though the 4 day week is really taking the same amount of pay as you would for 5 days, so it's not the same.

Having elasticsearch, as this resource hungry slow to update JVM based thing always seems so horrible in Django based projects. In that world, using haystack and choosing a backend based on C++ is so much less hassle for deployment. Althoug

I mean.. I hate having to use elasticsearch, so this is quite a feat. (To be fair, I've only worked on projects that use ES where it is entirely unnessacary).

And some of the CEOs of LLM companies seem to believe in it, and that "AGI" will come from their LLM work - both of which are utterly insane points of view.

There were a lot of things that made Flash good for creatives / non programmers. I think the "one big file" is a part people neglect to mention, it means you can just copy that to ftp and the site is deployed. Modern Web tech

This is idea nails it. I can ask the LLM infinite "stupid questions". For all the things I know a little about, it can push me in the direction of an average in that field. I can do lots of little prototypes and find the gaps then
