The bootloader isn't a problem, Apple even gave instructions on how to do it. Drivers are a problem. Somehow doubt Apple is going to document those.

The issue is that you really start feel the performance limitations of a cheap ARM SoC. Especially if you do a bunch of C compiling like Torvalds would.

About 8.5 minutes of full load it starts to throttle. At about 30 minutes the throttling peaks. Although, even when throttling it's only at 80% power. For native apps that's still faster than the mobile i9 in the 16in mbp.

I think the (dystopian, to most hackernews users evidently) future is that all OSes become nothing more than the layer necessary to run Google Chrome.

Having used Sorbet, one thing immediately noticeable is that it's incredibly verbose due to needing to be valid ruby syntax. Was there any developer pushback on that? Also, maybe I missed it, but Sorbet has a very fleshed out plugin fo

It's one thing to adopt a layer of static typing on top of your massive production codebase, it's another to switch languages entirely.

Yes, I personally am happy that Spotify is an electron app. Considering that the Linux binary is maintained by volunteers at the company I'm pretty sure it just wouldn't exist otherwise.

Roblox isn't so much a "game" as a platform for making games. Think Gmod. As a result, the more "creative freedom" you have, the more the often teen+ aged developers do what people that age do with creative freedom.

Yes, multiplayer is a good point. Roblox is an easy way to make games that are 1) Multiplayer (skipping all netcode, account systems, and so forth) 2) Have a secured, safe, and trusted way to make transactions If you were to try and make a

Anything with VR has such an insane barrier of entry that I don't see it eating into anyone's lunch anytime soon. Roblox has the userbase it does because it's on every platform and runs on potatoes. How many kids (using a lar

Don't consider Roblox a traditional game. It's basically Gmod for kids and with official corporate support and a official way for developers to wring money out of its consumers with micro transactions. More platform than game. It&

FOSS should be particularly fine, since the code is public, eventually someone will recompile it for ARM (if it's even written in a native language; languages with runtimes will work perfectly fine when the runtime is ported) If not, e

What does that mean? Bootcamp is just running windows on the machine. You're gaming on an Intel cpu and an AMD gpu. That doesn't change because Apple installed another OS on the system. Sufficient or not is a weird way to put it.

But only after 10+ minutes of full load according to tests. And only after 30 minutes do you get noticeably performance drops (around 20% or so). For developers, for instance, I really doubt you're going to commonly have 30 minutes of

There's been XCode benches on some of the reviews (see: https://youtu.be/XQ6vX6nmboU?t=186 ), seems like the M1 beats even the iMac Pro, and is as fast as a Ryzen R9 3950X hackintosh (although I suspect that they'r

There's also a provision in the DMCA law about "circumventing copyright law" https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/1201 Which you could argue this falls into.

That doesn't mean anything legally either. It's not like you give up your electors when you concede. It's just part of losing gracefully. Technically the only thing that matters is what the electors decide to do.
