Meta is going to surpass Google this year in revenue. I agree on the diversification front though

What you're saying is all true, but typically road design influence driving speed more than anything. Changing speed limits rarely has an impact on that (at least in the US).

I know it's an unrealistic pipe dream, but it feels like a privacy-friendly user identity/attestation mechanism is the kind of digital infrastructure that should be provided by the government. We already trust the government to gi

> That doesn't make sense that a 1024x1024 is cheaper than a 1024x1536, [...] I think you meant more expensive, right? Because it would make sense for it to be cheaper as there are less pixels.

What's interesting is that ChatGPT ads sit on a spectrum of intent. It's definitely closer to Google in some sense as some of the ads can be in response to a very high intent prompt (what's a good X product), but it does feel

I agree with you, but IMO the details are too sparse here to figure out what's really happening. Still, it feels very dangerous to try to go the reseller route first as you lose a ton of control and become dependent on your partner to

Agreed with the sentiment regarding that footage. This felt closer to something you could actually experience rather than another beautiful DSLR shot. Briefly seeing the inside of the capsule, the autofocus taking a long time, the iPhone im

So the first thing that's important to understand is that Excel is the product of another era. One where resources like memory were very constrained and compilers and optimizers weren't as good as they are today (so much so that t

Maybe but not drastically so. My guess is that most of the slowness comes from the tool calls round tripping+processing on Anthropic/OpenAI’s servers rather than the app latency. That’s without talking about the poor UI and security st

No, as the other comment mentioned. But I’ve heard of more than a few customers running their own “server excel workflow” where they have an instances of excel.exe running a VBA macro that talks to a web server (and does some processing).

I don’t think Excel web will ever be running the calc engine browser side, no. The only way I could see this happen would be via compiling the core to wasm, which I don’t think is worth the engineering effort. Excel has this legacy (but ext

To clarify: add-ins are essentially web pages. They can do some processing client side if they want, but yeah in the case of a ChatGPT add-in it's not like they're running the model in a web frame.

I worked on the Excel Add-Ins platform at Microsoft, yes. By OM call I mean "Object Model" call, basically interacting with the Excel document. The reason those calls are expensive on Excel Web is that you're running your add

> I'm sure there's some edge cases, but MSFT has been moving away from OAI. You're not wrong, but you'd think that given their 27% stake in OpenAI they'd put more weight behind ChatGPT integration.

Oh wow, I used to work on Excel Add-Ins about 10 years ago. Even got a patent for it. I'd be curious to see how they implemented the calls. We came up with what I still consider a pretty cool batch-rpc mechanism under the hood so that

I’m not saying others don’t provide a status page, just that they’re often misleading. I’m thinking for example of Apple having a multiple hour outages a couple weeks ago, preventing anyone be from installing debug apps on devices. Yet, eve

I think you're extrapolating a lot from my comment... One can reasonably think something has to be done to address the current (and upcoming) economic situation and think that molotov cocktails won't help. Acts like these will lik

You don’t normally compress the system prompts, though I guess maybe it treats its own summary with more authority. This article [0] talks about the problem very well. Though I feel it’s most likely because models tend to degrade on large c
