I think there is nuance here, even within a product company, not all software is equal. There's software to support core business (think ads in Google) and there's probably software to support internal dashboards (also in Google),

i guess you can argue for age discrimination but come on, what does leetcode style interviews have to do with race and gender discrimination? In some sense, these interviews are exactly the type of interviews you want to not have race /

proofs are actually what made me get interested in math, proofs allowed for such a range of self expression and creativity that i was hooked even though they usually required more thought. Compare this to the studying the myriad of integrat

These days science is done as a "collaborative" effort, there are tons of people gaming that, like putting their names on papers where they didn't do that much, churning out papers which doesn't really add much to scienc

Not everyone is talented enough to have their pick of jobs to choose from. A lot of people take what they can get within their constraints.

The only guide post to use in this world of ever increasing information to learn is to ask yourself "do i find learning this stuff enjoyable?", questions like "can i become an expert" are vague and not good guideposts.

The board can still fire sam provided they get all the key stakeholders onboard with that firing. It made no sense to fire someone doing a good job at their role without any justification, that seems to have been the key issue. Ultimately,
