It's another case of bad naming. The feature should be called something less absolute like "do not track me across websites" or "track me less".

What I mean is that they try to achieve stability by eliminating bugs, not by doing damage control. Proactive vs reactive.

Remember that microkernels aren't just trying to achieve modularity - they also take a stab at robustness by failure recovery. This is IMO doomed to fail - you are much better off trying to achieve robustness by correctness. Monolithic

SQlite might be meant to be light, but surely they could implement rudimentary alter table support (perhaps through the create new and rename strategy mentioned here)? The alternative is that each client have to code their own version. I ca

IMHO it's not about just putting in hours. It's about believing in what you strive to acomplish, so that you can make concious choices about which tasks are useful or not. Once you have a clear goal, go ahead and put in the hours if you wan

String shouldn't be abstract, just like ArrayList shouldn't be abstract. Why? Because you should use composition, not inheritance. You should introduce types for your concepts in your code to avoid these type of problems. But it's always te

I believe that this type of crisis ultimately hits everyone with an analytical mind, given the current school system. That is at least the conclusion that I've drawn from my similar experiences. The urge to understand is not catered for in

Responsive design sounds like a glorified switch clause: instead of making good fluid design which scales you essentialy fork your webpage design into multiple versions, and swap between them based on screen size. Seems like a bad idea to m

When talking about productivity, it's important to acknowledge the difference between speed and progress. While working uninterrupted is great for development speed, it might also lead you down the rabbit hole, working with irrelevant featu

I've tried to find some sort of backing theory to CSS, but I've only found references to authors, not rationales . You would expect it to be founded on some solid typesetting theory. It would be very interesting to hear how the authors reas

Having gotten myself out of a startup-induced depression I feel for you. Getting out of a depression is never easy, you simply cannot spot the right paths to take you out of there while in it. I can only give you some advice which helped me

If your code ends up like that you probably missed having a sustainable rate, pair programming, code reviews, refactoring and writing testable code. So you missed a lot.

I feel that we have to understand that using technology to fight legal battle never is the right answer. As soon as the government sees a particular technology as a hinder, threat or even an inconvenience, they can legislate against it. Thi

Most (all?) of these cannot cope with trees of objects, plus that they leave the responsibility of destructing to the user of the object. So they are just as ugly as external locking. Problem is that very few people understand this, so they

I'm not saying that it's a bad idea. But for the longest time web designers refused learning to code. They wanted to edit their html in dreamwaver, and it was up to the coder to make that possible. When you look at modern web apps, they are

Wait a sec. Wasn't css invented in order to separate style and structure? Now we have frameworks and libs trying to marry them back together. Why not just use old style html? It's also funny that there was such a strong movement which tried

While compromized passwords are one problem, leaking your data is bad in so many other ways as well. Yet almost all focus lies in obfuscating passwords to prevent extraction in the case of a breach. We don't talk as much about securing addr

I find this type of introspection highly annoying in any language. If the lib/framework is poking around in your class internal data you loose control over your objects. The useful abstraction which an object provides is gone and it's reduc

Yes, and the chance that the OP will get the codebase in order sounds minimal. It's simply too large, it would take one person many years to clean up a mess like that.
