This black tshirt attitude is so true. Git simply has zero focus on usability and actively avoids hiding implementation details. Critizise this and you will get bashed by the shirts! Related: http://git-man-page-generator.lokalto

IMO code review as it is commonly done today focuses too much on small details and way too little on the general approach, algorithms and architectural soundness. We should talk more about the solution, not about the "code".

I've been bitten by #5 quite bad. Ranged over N elements in my slice, took the addresses of the values, copied to new slice. Ended up with a slice with N identical values. !?!?!? Took me about 30 mins of staring, printfing and whatnot

Quick question, what does not being crash safe mean in practice? Will I have to recreate all indexes in pg and this will trigger a restart of Elastic and recreation of all indexes there?

What is the author saying? That innovation cannot be commoditized? I would go further and say that innovation shouldn't be considered a goal but rather a result (of hard work, intelligence, strategy and more). Making innovation your pr

It's very easy to make people stop doing this by making it illegal. It might sound obvious but I find that this aspect is often overlooked when tech people talk about these issues. You cannot work around the law. At least not in the lo

The biggest problem IMO is that GC is usually used in languages where it gets no free information about variable scope. GC could actually be really useful in C++ or Rust for postponing the destruction of many small objects and doing it in o

Duratio actually kinda adresses this for time instants. If you enter "now" you get an instant. You can move it around the time axis and show its value at a specific zone by using "in zone PST" or similar. So if you enter

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the representation is suboptimal. I will work on this if there is interest in the site. Regarding the ast representation, I will think about making it optional.

My NLP is not top notch :D. I figured that getting the parsing intuitive would be doable given the relatively narrow field, but I was proven wrong :) The result is that you need to learn the syntax a bit before it feels intuitive. Regarding

OK I agree that it's more logical from a GC point of view. But why would you end up with a gigantic string? Are you not doing something wrong then? Anyway, I have moderately sized strings and am trying to analyze parts of them. And I d

Coding Pro Tip: Instead of using the Singleton pattern, make one instance of your class at the start of your program and pass it around to its users. Singletons are really just as bad as global variables. Why? Because they are global variab

Stop being so dismissive of this being a problem. I've had lots of problems with runaway allocation rates in parsers due to this issue. They could at least have introduced an alternative method which returns a view into the original St
